Scholarships for transfer students, out of state tuition waivers?

Hi, I’m in my sophomore year of CC and i’m about to be applying for transfer.I will be in my junior year when I transfer. I’m in state for Texas. I was wondering if anyone knew of any colleges that had scholarships for transfer students or out of state tuition waivers.

For a school to be affordable to me, tuition needs to be between 10-15K. I live on my own and work and will have 10K in savings by the time I leave. I work for a company that is easy to transfer between locations and has a location in almost every city. All i’m looking for is schools with tuition between 10-15K

Some stats about me…

Will have 51 credits after the fall semester. Currently have 35.
4.0 GPA
Biology major (Looking for a school with wildlife bio/zoology/conservation bio/etc. but i’m going to grad school so it’s not a dealbreaker)

ECs…
Phi Theta Kappa member

Founder and president of my school’s speech and debate team, participate in tournaments, as well as I judge high school tournaments in my spare time. I also help run my high school’s annual tournament which is around 60 hours itself.

I volunteer a lot…I work with terminally ill cats, am a docent at my town’s history museum, member of citizen’s climate lobby, volunteer zookeeper, volunteer wildlife rehabber, etc. I probably volunteer around 20 hours a week.

I am a member of an organization that works with the National Parks Service to educate citizens about native wildlife and plants. It involves around 16 hours a month and involves several out of state trips working directly with the parks service. In May I will take a test and become a certified wildlife tracker.

I have created my own website about the human-caused effects on marine life in the Pacific Northwest. I have created a petition that goes along with the site.

*I’m not sure if this matters for transferring, but almost all of my courses I take are online because I live in a bit of a rural area and my CC’s campus is about an hour away from me. Thats why I have so much time to work and volunteer. *

Ideally I would like to go to OOS. I’m not opposed to in state and will be applying to some in state colleges. However, OOS is my first choice. I’m looking for anything where the tuition is between 10-15K. Ideally i’d like somewhere in the western part of the US. Thanks! If you need anymore info don’t be afraid to ask.

Thank me later.
But seriously, you’ve been kicking butt at your time in CC, and definitely have the credentials to be a JKC scholar. It’s the most prestigious scholarship for CC students, you owe it to yourself to check it out! Applications will be opening up soon.

As for OOS tuition waivers specifically, I believe there is a thread on this site with a list of those (for transfer students). The highest ranking university on that list is University of Nebraska at Lincoln which gives a pretty badass scholarship that waives tuition depending on your grades and test scores.

University of New Mexico has strong programs in evolutionary biology, conservation biology, and global change biology

UNM offers several scholarships for OOS students, including the Transfer Amigo Scholarship and Lobo Undergraduate Exchange Program (LUE) for students not from WUE states.

New Mexico State offers several OOS transfer student scholarships, including one specifically for Texas residents who live no more than 135 miles from the TX-NM border.

Instate tuition at UT-Austin is under $11,000 a year.

So…why would an OOS school be a better choice?

@thumper1 I lived in Austin for around 5 years and do not want to relive the experience…I cannot afford to live there because the cost of living is extremely high. My financial advisor even told me to stay away from UT because she went there herself and ended up spending so much on living costs. The campus itself is in the middle of the city and a lot of the buildings are falling apart, broken desks, ripped up carpet, stains all over the walls, etc. I also don’t like the constant construction. UT is also very competitive to get in for transfers so I likely wouldn’t get much aid.

@thumper1 I have schools I can afford instate. I prefer to go out of state, though, becuase I have lived here for 20 years and would like to move someplace else. I have OOS schools on my list I can afford. I’m just seeing if someone knows of any schools I wasn’t aware of

@WayOutWestMom Thank you, i’ve heard of UNM and i’m planning on applying there. I hadn’t heard about NMS. Unfortunately I live in central texas, about an hour east of austin, so not close to the new mexico border! I will look into their other opportunities though!
