Dear All,

I cannot seemed to find a lot information regarding the chances of getting TAMU merit scholarships. I refer to merit only, not need base. Also not National Merit, as this information is already available on TAMU website.

If you can share your statistics, that would be great.

Texas resident or OOS

SAT or ACT score

Ranking in school

Which college in TAMU

Name and type (university or major) of award and how much per year over how many years.

I forgot to add:

When did you get it?

You might get a better response if you give YOUR stats and ask for advice for your specific circumstances.

i don’t want a chance me. I am looking for STATS of those who already gotten them.

Look at their common data set, and look on their financial aid website under “scholarships”. The info about whether these are guaranteed or competitive will be there. The minimum stats for consideration should be there as well.

To be honest, knowing what other people 's stats were in previous admissions years will be of little to no value to you when you apply. Every year, the applicant pool changes, and therefore so do the averages for these awards.

My son was accepted to TAMU ace scholars program for engineering and was all set to go until we saw the financial aid pkg. He was top 7 percent of his class, took 10 ap classes and exams, received distinguished scholar from college board for ap, 2040 SAT, 3.75 GPA, national honors society etc. he received $2500 grant offer from A&M but got $9000 grant from ut Austin. Our family efc was $8338. We were very dissappointed considering all the sites indicated they give 78 percent aid on avg. there was no way I was paying 20 grand for my child to go to A&M per year. We were smart enough to fund Texas tomorrow fund so we ended up paying an additional 5 grand per year at ut Austin. A lot of good students not exceptional at my sons school got $0. We are in state. He started this fall at UT

Look under alphabetic school listing for A&M and you’ll see more details from other disappointed parents and kids from last year

"“all the sites indicated they give 78 percent aid on avg”"

That doesn’t mean what it sounds like. It just means that of the students who ACTUALLY enrolled, THOSE students had approx 78% of THEIR need met. There may have been a WHOLE bunch of low EFC kids who got lousy pkgs and therefore could NOT enroll…but they aren’t included in THAT stat. The enrolled students may have been a bunch of high EFC kids who got most of their need met with a $5500 loan.
