<p>If I do this wrong, will the IRS let me know so I can correct it? Meaning, they will match it with the school records to determine that I paid the appropriate amount? My school sent only one quarter of tuition bill, but two quarters of aid, meaning that it shows an income of 3000.00, but that is only because winter quarter tuition was billed after Jan. 1st. </p>
<p>Fall 2011: 4000.00 tuition
Fall 2011: 3500.00 scholarship
Winter 2012: 3500 scholarship
Winter 2012 tuition: Not included on this years 1098-T</p>
<p>So do i have to pay taxes on the 3000 that I used for the following year (winter 2012)?
If I mess this up will I get in trouble with the IRS?</p>
