scholarships w/o fin. need

hey guys

i was wondering if anyone has found any good scholarships for students who don't qualify as having financial need. essay contests would be good, as would things involving community service or art. thanks! i've checked out fastweb, but they all seem to involve financial need which i technically do not have, even though who can really pay 40,000 a year without help?

Your best chance for such scholarships would be to apply to colleges that give merit aid and where your stats are in the top 25% or so of their pool.

A parent recently added a link of schools and merit money. Maybe this will help in your search. .

Some, not many, schools provide academic scholarships to students--usually those in the top 10% of applicant pool. Lehigh Univ. is one that is not mentioned in this list they linked us to. The list for BU only mentions some specific scholarships--there are other half tuition ones too. Usually you can find these on the school admissions web sites. So many middle class families do not qualify for fin. aid but 40K plus a yr is mind boggling. Our S got into Tufts and NYU, more competetive, but chose BU, slightly less competetive, partly because they "tipped the scales" in the decison making process by offering a 50% tuition scholarship. He must maintain a GPA of 3.2 to keep it. It will come out to about 70K after all 4 yrs..
