Scholarships - Who Got, Whose Going

I guess all the scholarship info is out, pleased vs. disappointed?? Are you going to attend?

I received the Davie, was hoping for Carolina Scholars, OOS

My daughter received Carolina Scholars - in state. She's going to UNC.

i got an academic scholaship of $2,500 a year. don't even know if it has a name. now i'm REALLY confused about where to go.. i was leaning towards duke but i don't know anymore. duke would be sooOOOOoOOOOO much more expensive than chapel hill, especially since i'm in-state. somebody HELP. lol

Could you please post your SAT I score and GPA?

My daughter got a Davie.
GPA: 4.0 UW
SAT I: 1540
White female
In-state

I received the James Johnston scholarship ($6610 a year). My stats, oddly enough, are almost identical to those of logosprincipal's daughter.

SAT: 1540 (800V, 740M)
SAT II's: 790,750,740
GPA: 4.0 uw, 6.0 w (IB Diploma student)
In-state

I think I'm going to turn it down for Duke, though (it's cheaper!).

What is the Davie?

crazy! my stats are identical to logosprincipal's daughter's too :D.

plus some additional stats:
4.95 w gpa; 4/500ish class rank; four 5's on ap tests and one 4 last year

The Davie is $5,000 for an in-state student.

Pleeeaase don't spend that much more money to go to Duke. Really the quality of the schools are not that different, and for most of us it's not worth that much extra money to get a Duke education, unless you want to study engineering, which we don't have. I know Duke is a great school, but UNC is right there with them in academics, and many would say that the social life here is much more comfortable and accepting. Please think hard before deciding that Duke is worth that much more money. Come here and go buy yourself an iPod or two with your savings.

or a house! i love duke, 2 of my best friends go there and it has a really cool atmosphere, everyone knowing everyone, that you can only get at small schools. but if thats what you want than I would go to wake, i dont know if you applied there but they usually give better financial aid than duke.

No, what I meant earlier is that Duke is cheaper (for me) than UNC. With my scholarships factored in, an education per year is about $6500 at Duke and $7500 at UNC (loans were virtually nonexistant at both). Believe me, if I hadn't gotten a good deal, I would definitely be heading to UNC. lovelight15, yes, I did apply to Wake. I'm don't think I'm going there either, but I'm still not quite sure.

I think I was more intending my comments above for charmedone, since he/she's faced with a situation where UNC is much cheaper than Duke, and I'd hate to see anyone pay that much extra for not a whole lot of (if any) benefit, so that was more how I was responding. If Duke is cheaper I suppose you might as well go there, as hard as that is to say.

oh if duke is cheaper def. go there, but couldnt you get instate tuition at unc after a year or two?

yeah.. i can definitely see the reasoning behind that. i just wish unc offered engineering :/. oh, and i didn't apply to wake.

Well, if you want biomed engineering, UNC has a decent joint program with State. Granted, it's not as good as Duke's program, but it's still respectable.

I got the Robertsons and I am deciding right now between Yale and UNC

Haha seven Nights
wait till eadad hears. His son chose to go to UNC as a Morehead vs. Yale last Fall.
Are you paying full freight at Yale, and is money an issue?

What happened.

whaddya mean? I said his son CHOSE to go to UNC.

Your sentence seemed to suggest a word of caution about going to UNC

Oh, sorry, did not mean to give the wrong impression. My D is also considering UNC among several other choices. Hopefully you have visited both places, and done some hard-core thinking.
