How hard is it to be considered for the USC scholarships (Trustee, Presidential, Deans', etc.)?

My application will definitely be better if it were sent by 1/10 rather than 12/10. But at the same time, I wonder if I could score $8,000 a semester.

3.8UW, 2120SATs, 750 on 2 SAT IIs, President of a club, VP of another, cross country, volunteerwork, tutor, studied abroad, etc.

Do I have a chance?

Also, the USC website said somewhere that if you apply for the scholarship, you would need a transcript for Fall 2005 grades sent in as soon as possible. Does this mean that if you do not apply for scholarships, you don't need to send in your midyear grades?

I currently am not doing well in school this year due to that cursed senioritis. (Heard of it?) My overall GPA is like a B-, and I'm worried. I'm trying my best now to raise it (our first semester ends in February).

It's very very hard. You have to be literally PERFECT! That means 4.0UW, 2350+ SAT, and 800 SAT IIs. You could give it a shot, but if you are low on time, then I'd forget it.

And even if you don't apply for a scholarship, you still need to submit midyear grades.

Yeah that's what I figured.
But the USC lady told me that "there are so many scholarships we could've given out, but people sent it after the deadline SO APPLY BEFORE 12/10." Is that...bs? lol

Anyway, 110 Trustee scholars, 258 Presidential scholars, and 53 Deans' scholars, adding up to 421 scholarships. Out of the 2,741 freshmen, were there really 421 people with the 4.0UW avg, 2350 (well, 1500+ old sat?), 800 on SAT IIs, etc?

Hm...I really don't know if I should send it in before 12/10.
I guess I'll try...

Okay, now that I look at the numbers, it is reasonable to think that all those people had super high numbers.

Yeah, it's true. And unfortunately there are several people who get scholarships that don't even attend USC at the end!!! I don't think those scholarships are awarded to another "deserving" person... Sux.

I was wondering what your midyear grades were last year (if you remember). Would straight B-'s/80 cut it? My grades thus far are just..horrible.

Oh yeah, sorry for bombarding you with 432432342234 questions lol.

It would be better if scholarship recipients could post stats instead of just redski's opinion (although it is helpful).

I have Presidential scholarship and I got 1500 SAT I, 2250 SAT I, 790 Math IIC, 800 Chem, 233 PSAT, 4.5 w GPA. Some people with better stats get Presidential, some people with less scores get Trustee. A lot of times it's because of some other factor that isn't academic. It also has to do with how many other people at your school get a scholarship. If someone from your school gets Trustee, then you will probably get Presidential if your stats aren't as good, even if both of you, by general high school standards, have very good scores. I think I'm generalizing a lot though.

Take a deep breath everyone. You should definitely apply by the scholarship deadline. My statictics were sometimes better, sometimes worse than yours, and here I am with the Trustee scholarship and TO. You DON'T have to be perfect to get the scholarship. I am nowhere near perfect. My SAT was 1440, I had a 3.7 GPA, and a did a ton of activities. Activities with leadership, recommendation letters, and essays mean a lot. For the scholarship, it isn't just scores that are important.

I'll step off of my soap box now, but please apply by the scholarship deadline. You seem like a decent candidate for one. You never know what will happen!

Is an interview required for all scholarships? I'm reading a few posts and seeing different answers to this. D:

If the answer is no, would it be possible to get one with good numbers but poor ECs?

Basically, I want to know if I'm wasting my time in rushing myself for the scholarship deadline. I'm applying to the School of Cinema-Television, if that matters. I'm not even sure I'll get in (you can see my stats if you click on my name, go to other posts by me, and look at my most recent post on the What Are My Chances? board), but I can't really afford to throw away a small chance at a scholarship.

miltm, my ACT was 34 and I got a Presidential scholarship. I think the above posters who said high scores aren't necessarily required for scholarships are correct: anyone has a chance, just give it your best shot :)
