Why would UArts and OKC not be as strong as BOCO?

Oh boy. Answering this question in open forum will cause a uproar. I will PM you with my answer.

Hey MTdad,

you seem to be a wealth of information. On a similar note, my daughter has to decide between Boco and Guildford School of Acting in Surrey, England. She is thrilled about both and terrified of picking one over the other. Does anyone have thoughts on the preparation and opportunities on that side of the Atlantic. We are thinking that studying over there may get here better connections in London’s “west end”. Also, it is a three year program instead of four and 100k less in total costs. Anyone feel free to pipe in because Mom and Dad have little MT knowledge to offer her. Thanks

^^^^ Thank you for your compliment. I wish I could offer an opinion but I know nothing about Guildford or it’s program.

Now I’m really discouraged. Our son is dead set on Boston Conservatory. His sister will be at Berklee for two more years and can easily get him acclimated. His dad is a television executive/former tv producer. He (our son) has had lead roles here in our city, worked in tv as a child, and we believe has a very strong chance of success once he’s finished at BoCo. How in the world do we fund this adventure for him with a foreclosure on our record? He is doing two fundraiser dinners here locally, has a website with a paypal donation button and several audio and video samples. But since we just found out last week that we don’t qualify for ANY loans for him, nor as a cosigner for HIS loans, we only have until July 15 to come up with $40K. Any ideas? So, so upset over this. Not to mention all the $$ we’ve already spent on our daughter’s Berklee education – and she may not get to return either. We emailed, but I think I’ll also call and ask to speak to someone higher up about increasing his scholarship. I was turned down flat via email. I think it was a clerk I was speaking with, though.

Also, he was pretty sick during his Atlanta audition. He might have gotten a larger scholarship, but he left feeling like he’d be fortunate just to have made it in.

Did you look at a Parent’s PLUS loan? It is fully guaranteed by the government. You can’t default on the loan because they will garnish you salary to the day you die. It is similar to a FHA loan in that even with bad credit you can get the loan.

Boco just does not have a lot of money to give. Don’t be fooled by the few that received generous scholarships, they are rare. Maybe one or two boys receive in excess of 20K. I am not speaking as an official of BOCO, but the annual scholarship budget for an incoming class of 50 - 55 MT in around $200K.

Good luck.

We were turned down for a parent plus loan. I thought pretty much anyone could get those! But foreclosure is an automatic denial. We need a cosigner desperately. We had to give back our house because a crooked remodeler ruined it. Our foundation sank. It was terrible. We had already lost $100,000. We just couldn’t take anymore hits from what that guy did to us. I wish we could sue the remodeler and force HIM to pay for our son’s education. Our attorney said we might win but he doesn’t have our money. It’s already in someone else’s house, etc. So the issue isn’t even that we’re a credit risk. We’re not. We need an angel to cosign the loan.
