Scholarships...?

I'm at the point of getting ready to apply to WashU scholarships cause I'm finally done with college apps. The problem is that I'm burnt out. But I'm at least applying to the Danforth Scholarship. I was going to apply to the McKelvey Undergrad Research Award and the Summer Scholar Program, but I don't know if it'll just be a waste of my time. I've done research a couple times but they're not all that. So I don't want to spend forever writing essays if I have a really small chance of getting the scholarship. Do you think I should still apply to them?

I would say go for it. The scholarships are very competitive, but you never know, you might be exactly what they’re looking for. It’s worth a shot. Also, are you applying RD? If so, scholarship applications are a great way of showing your interest in WashU.

Alright, thanks for the advice! I’ll just finish the ones that I’m really interested in first and then I’ll go for the others.

my thoughts exactly…

Just so you are aware the summer scholars programs is really meant for rising seniors although rising college freshman have done it before. It is a great program and an awesome way to spend your summer but you will be living on campus for the 5 weeks before your freshman year starts and chances are you wont be returning home.

You must be confused, because that’s entirely inaccurate. To be a summer scholar it is required that you be attending WashU in the fall as a freshman. I know several people who did it.

You may have been thinking of the high school program, which is entirely different. Rising freshmen should not do the high school program (it’s technically not allowed) - that’s what FSAP is for. And it’s something you pay for, unlike summer scholars which is indeed a scholarship.

yeah, sammyboy527 I think you are a bit confused.

I was a summer scholar in 2010. It is a seven week research program during the summer before your freshman year in college. Participating in this program was probably one of the best choices I ever made as it really helped me get a feel for the research environment as well as WashU before classes even began. As Johnson181 said, the program is a scholarship (paid!) as opposed to the high school program which you must pay for and consists of classes instead of research.
