Are scholarships included in the acceptance packet cuz i didn't get one :(
just wondering...thanks

I was wondering the same. We were just told that we had $6000 in commuter money but if other monies were given, the $6000 would be taken away. We really were hoping for other scholarship monies. (not financial aid)

Don’t worry if you didn’t hear about a scholarship yet! The FA packages have not been finalized yet…you haven’t even filed FAFSA! And for the people who did receive notice of Dean’s scholarships and others, there is still the possibility that some of those offers will go up.

In past years, it took until the 1st week in April for all FA packages to be completed assuming FAFSA and CSS were filed timely. Most EA applicants heard in February but some offers were increased…significantly, I might add…as late as April!

Congratulations on your acceptance! :)

Thanks @sandkmom, really appreciate it!

thanks for all your information

You’re welcome! Good luck! :)

What about the Semifinalist scholarships, or other merit-based awards that do not require a FAFSA? Will those be announced in December?

Does this apply if you do not qualify for need-based aid? I am under an H-4 Visa which basically means that I can’t get need-based aid or even fill out the FAFSA (but I could do CSS). For merit scholarships, will I have to wait too?

Should I have already heard about merit scholarships if I got my acceptance letter? I have not filled out my FASFA yet, but I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting any need-based scholarships. Has anyone heard about merit scholarships yet?

My daughter received her acceptance packet in the mail on Friday and there was a second letter in the folder which notified her that she had been awarded the Semifinalist Scholarship, which is full tuition. We are thrilled and extremely grateful.

For those who did not receive merit scholarship notification, do not panic. I have a son who is a sophomore at Fordham. I distinctly remember that 2 years ago some students received notification at acceptance and some later in February or March. I am not sure why they do it this way, but there is still hope.

Sorry I don’t know about that one. It appears from ohio929496 that at least some Semifinalist scholarship offers went out but perhaps not all. You might call admissions and ask…I’d wait until they reopen in January though. They have enough going on this week!

Most merit awards are not need based but you still have to fill out all the required paperwork which in most cases includes CSS and FAFSA. And filing FAFSA annually is required to renew most scholarships but if you are not eligible to file, then I would speak to a FA counselor and find out exactly what you need to do to complete your file to be considered for scholarships. It may be nothing, IDK.

Basically, some people received notice of the Dean’s scholarship which is set at $10k and yes it can go up based on need BUT there are other scholarships that are not at all need based and people might receive a combination of awards bringing up the total amount of merit $. For example, my S received a combination of the Loyola AND a Fordham Tuition Award, neither is tied to need so it is the same amount each semester. Yes, some EA applicants heard that they received a merit award but most people will not hear until later.

Congratulations on your D’s acceptance and scholarship! So will you have a 92 & 94 at Fordham? Will you consider it for your 96? I have a 92 at LC and will look into RH for the 96!

EXACTLY!

My son got his acceptance letter today, but there was no letter in the packet awarding him the NMSF scholarship.

Oh well. He really likes the school.

Thanks sandkmom, I got accepted today with a full tuition scholarship. Hopefully it renews for me.

TheJuanSoto: My understanding is that you need to keep a 3.0 average and the scholarships automatically renew. My S has never had an issue with his scholarship (and he is now a senior). Congratulations.

Looks like my son got caught in the “top 10%” criteria for the semifinalist scholarship. His school doesn’t rank, so Fordham evidently appied the eyeball test to his grades and decided they didn’t pass muster. He appears ready to move on, as he has other substantial scholarship offers. It’s a shame. I wish all of you (and your kids) the best at Fordham.

Same thing happened to my daughter 2 years ago. She went to a public school with a competitive admission policy - only 16% acceptance so being in the top 10% would be very hard. Her school did not rank. Fordham never even checked out info about her school and was completely unresponsive to all of our inquiries. Fortunately as a NMSF she had many other options and is very happy now.

If I didn’t receive the any news about the semifinalist scholarship with my acceptance packet, does that mean there is no chance I get it, even in Feb or March?

I’m wondering the same thing! The reason I initially applied to Fordham was because of an early letter mailed to me about that scholarship. After investigating the school and making a visit, I fell in love, but I’m so afraid that the price will be out of my range without that scholarship :(

Scholarship Update: S received notification today of a merit award of $16K. I called and spoke to finaid and explained that we didn’t qualify but they told us to apply anyway as that was the only way to award other money. We did the “early” finaid application phone call which was painless. Was not expecting really to get anything but there it is. So if in doubt, apply for financial aid.

After reading this thread I am even more confused about how Fordham handles their merit and need based aid. My son received his acceptance letter back in December. He was told he had a 10,000 scholarship. We filled out the FAFSA on our own since I have an older daughter already attending a different school and it was easier for me to just do his at the same time as hers. This is my question, is there a chance that he will still be receiving additional merit based aid or are we looking at purely need based aid from here? Is it worth calling the financial aid office to inquire or do we just wait to get his package? My daughter attends an in-state public college so I have never had to deal with type of issue before. Any information would be appreciated.
