Scholarships

Are there any scholarships (besides banneker/key) that are exclusive to honors college students? I got a $2000 a year award today (presidential scholarship) and im out of state, and thats not really much of a help.

I too got the same scholarship. Definately not a lot of help at all. Oh well makes choice of picking a college a lot easier

Has anyone else received notification? I haven’t and I’ll be really disappointed if I didn’t get anything :frowning: Also, do you mind posting a short description of your stats, f1fan33 and pasquale1226?

i got 8k in state.
i think the only other one is the deans scholarship which is at most like 1.5k

I haven’t gotten mine yet and I’m in state, grr worried :///

My son just received today the Presidential Scholarship for 5,000 each year for 4 years.
We are out of state… SAT 2010 ACT 32 GPA 4.0 9/745 AP Bio-5 AP History-4
SAT II History 800. Although we are grateful, he received more from other colleges.

Daughter received Presidential scholarship, 20k over 4 years. She is a Maryland resident.

ACT 33
4.0 unweighted
4.6 weighted
1/400 rank
12 AP’s

Is your daughter Honors or Scholars?

She is Honors

My S also got $8K ($2K/yr). A bit insulting in my view, especially for out-of state ¶. Although not as good a school, at least South Carolina offered him a minimum of in-state tuition plus $2K, making tuition there $8500/yr., compared to Maryland at $27K less $2K. Also got merit awards from several private schools bringing cost down to at or below MD. At the moment, Maryland is looking like one of the most expensive options. Too bad.

I don’t think South Carolina and Maryland are comparable.

Maryland is considered a public ivy.

So, it seems as though they sent out the notifications for the Presidential Scholarship first, since that is the one that everyone here received. Oh, well… Does anyone know if they will still be sending them out.

48k over 4 years, out of state ¶, 2240, Scholars

Definitely grateful, but still debating if it’s enough to consider “affordable”

Same as bestmom/proudmom - 20K over 4yrs for my D - OOS ¶, 2200, Honors. She’s submitting separate app for AGNR scholarship, but can’t imagine very high.

I also got 20k over four years. It may not be much compared to other schools but they don’t give many scholarships it seems so I’m pretty happy with it
And I’m out of state, honors, 32 ACT, 4.5 gpa

Correct, Greivis, if you read my post I said South Carolina is not as good a school as Maryland. While UMD certainly is an excellent school, “public ivy" may be a bit generous (definitions vary, but it is not in the top ten, if on the list at all). Regardless, the point is whether it is worth an additional $17K/year over a school such as USC. Pitt (in-state) gave him $2K as well, which makes it almost $10K cheaper for a somewhat comparable school (58 vs. 55 US News rank) in state, although MD has the edge in business. My S is thrilled to have been accepted to an LEP (Business) and Scholars, but he has had better offers as well. Just trying to figure out the best value proposition. Of course, we won’t know the bottom lines until the FA awards come out next month.

Wow azk5370. 48k over 4, 2240, and Scholars, not Honors?

Maryland is not a public ivy.

I received a 36k (8k per year) Presidential Scholarship. OOS, 32 ACT, 4.0, Valedictorian, also in the Honors program

SAT: 2010 ACT: 30 GPA: 4.4 top 10% of class out of 365 students, im wondering if i will get anything else as a scholarship that is honors only. like is there a separate scholarship for kids in the honors college that hasnt gone out yet?

[Public Ivy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Public Ivy - Wikipedia)

by 8k i meant 32k over 4 years (8k per year) in state
35 ACT, 2270 SAT, gpa doesnt translate well but mostly good grades
