Scholarships

Does anyone know when notification for Presidential Scholarships will be given? These are scholarships covering full tuition and given to valedictorians and salutatorians for those attending Connecticut high schools. Do all vals/sals get them? Or only a select amount? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Note this is from last year when admissions were rolling, so it might not be the same for you.

I was accepted via the online portal at the beginning of January. I received my acceptance packet including notification of the Presidential Scholarship about a month later. If you’ve received the large packet in the mail, scholarship information should probably be in there.

I also remember reading that applicants who applied before December 1st were given priority in receiving the scholarship. AFAIK though, all public schools should be eligible. I don’t know about private schools. I’m pretty sure they also offer the scholarship to every val/sal that applies. They don’t guarantee it because a few people probably get caught up in administrative processes, but as long as everything is straight you should get it.

My S received the scholarship in the mailed packet about 1 week after he was accepted. He did not apply early - I think the app was submitted Jan12 or Jan 13. It was not the Presidential scholarship but another merit based one. Not sure of name, we are OOS, it was for $15K.

Oh wow! It says on their website that apps had to have been in by Dec 1st to be considered for scholarships. Oh well, guess I can’t blame my DS’s lack of scholarships on the fact that his app was submitted on Dec 10th!!

confusedmominMA - that is not totally true or correct. It reads: Priority consideration will be given to those who complete the application by December 1. So your D can still get a scholarship even after that time. My S did get $15K and applied well after the Dec 1 (actually right before the deadline on Jan 12/13) but we are OOS so that could be the difference. He applied so late bc my husband accepted a job and started working in CT recently so when that happened I told him to apply to UCONN and UMASS. We haven’t seen either school yet – will visit in April.

Well at this point I don’t think he is going to be getting any scholarships. I liked to believe that it was because he didn’t get his app in by Dec 1st but that bubble has been burst ;)

At this point we are just waiting and hoping for some decent FA. UConn is my son’s top choice.
