Scholarships

Has anyone received scholarships yet? If so, when, and how much? any engineering scholarships? Thanks.

My D got the Regents scholarship more than a month ago and the Engineering Scholarship of Honor a couple weeks ago. The Regents is one time $1500. The Engineering Honor is $8000 per year for in-state, or $20000 per year for oos. We are in state though.

I went to Campus Day yesterday, and I was told that the majority of scholarships will be sent out mid-March to April with your financial aid packet; however, some (like the Regents) may have already been sent out

I got the Joseph M. Geisinger Scholarship yesterday, for $20,000 per year. It’s an engineering scholarship.

Another Engr Scholarship of Honor here, also a couple weeks ago. We live OOS.

Congrats! That is $80k total for 4 year.

Would anyone who received scholarships mind posting stats?
Thanks

Thanks, @billcsho. And similar congrats to your D!

@ecarm28 - apologies, but I’m not too comfortable posting detailed stats on public forums.

How were you notified that you received the scholarships? Thanks

By snail mail.

My financial aid notice was posted today on Wolverine Access, and I didn’t see any mention of scholarships. Does that mean that I’ve struck out merit money-wise or is there still a possibility that scholarships be awarded in the next few weeks? I thought I’d be a competitive candidate (OOS), so I’d like to know whether I should give up or not yet. Thanks!

Scholarships will be awarded for awhile to come- however, many of the higher dollar amount awards have already been awarded or are in final stages and people have been notified.

Being OOS is not really a hook for scholarships. Your profile as a student is. There are some area specific awards with out of state notations, like the Geisinger (20k$ a year) for Engineering, but not many, and those were already awarded.

Thanks! I definitely know being OOS is not a hook (probably the opposite) but I included it because I know there is less OOS aid and I wasn’t sure if OOS money had already been awarded. I think I’m a competitive candidate in other ways too (2340 SAT, nationally recognized ECs, merit money/finalist for full ride at other similarly prestigious colleges) so I wanted to see if there is still a possibility of getting something.

My D also got the Financial Aid update on WA. It shows the awarded scholarships, work study, and some loan. I was hoping for some more grant but nothing. After the loan, the final cost is a little bit below EFC.

billcsho, congratulations on your D’s awesome accomplishment. I hope she goes Blue! ;)

EMH-

A possibility, yes, but not a large amount, most likely.

Good luck to you. :)

Thank you very much.
My D is pretty much decided to go to UM from the beginning as she wants to stay close to home. I am also 99% sure she will end up going there as of now. The only consideration right now is the cost. However, it is not likely to get a lower out of pocket cost from other BigTen even after scholarships and FA (with the exception of UMN) when compare to UMich in state cost. Anyway, she may commute after freshmen year if she could not get more scholarships next year. Some of the merit aids are for freshmen year only.

For future applicants to UMich - my D received $0 in FA (no merit so far) - OOS, top quartile in stats, decidedly middle class :(

Edit - ED and LSA Honors.

Not much of a surprise though, we were told from quite a few directions that OOS aid (financial or merit) was very difficult to obtain.

^^^^ Same. Accepted ED, applied & accepted LAS Honors. $0 FA and no merit. Has that boat sailed ?

Has anyone heard anything about the Bell Scholarship? It says the deadline for notification is March 15, and I’m getting more anxious every day waiting to hear if I’m a finalist/alternate.
