Clemson is my daughter's top school out of the three she is considering for next year as an engineer major. She is an OOS student, and we know what her automatic scholarship will be from Clemson. There are many additional Clemson scholarships from other sources available, and since the final decision will be based on cost, she is looking at all possible scholarship opportunities. Does anyone know when these additional scholarships are awarded?

They’re usually awarded with your admissions letter (I’ve heard some people after that but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule)

busyperson1, we are in the same boat! We are OOS and have just rec’d her acceptance and the basic academic scholarship. What other schools is she looking at?

@ptcmom231, she has decided to attend The University of Alabama. As I stated in another post, money is the deciding factor. She loves Clemson, but has full OOS tuition plus $2500 for engineering at Alabama. Clemson is ranked higher in engineering, but she weighed the difference in cost (about $15,000 per year) and decided the extra cost was not worth it. We all love Alabama (I’m an graduate), but she really felt Clemson was the school for her. I’m proud of her for making a mature decision, but disappointed she will not be able to attend her number one school, Clemson.

Just curious, why make the decision now if she has not heard the full details from Clemson. They offer $2500 MERIT aid addon if you show any financial need at all but you need to file a FAFSA in January. I know that isnotcomparable to $15000 but why not wait and see.

The website says if there is substantial financial need, then an additional $2500 will be considered. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, we do not qualify for financial aid.

@busyperson1 - would have loved to see her attend Clemson but you just gotta make the best financial situation and that’s the one with the least student loans/financial burden. Best of luck to her at 'Bama!

Clemson automatically puts you in a pool of private scholarships if you apply early. However, I don’t know when they tell you whether or not you received one.
