Scholarships...

Ok, so I won two scholarships recently. One was a regional one for Forensics/Speech and I got $2,500. This will take care of my $2,200 in loans I had left over in my aid package, and the $300 left over I suppose will cut some off my work study. However, I've won another one that is for, I think, ~$5,000...but since everything is covered by grants, scholarship, work study except for books, personal expenses, and transportation...will they just take the money and reduce my grant? I only ask because it would really be helpful if I can get the rest back for books, etc. I know it varies from institution to institution, but I just wanted some insight. This is for Tufts, btw.

Thanks,

Although I'm going to be a frosh at Columbia, I had a similar problem. I talked to my fin aid counselor at Columbia and she said they'll increase my budget, so it seems as if my tuition is higher. In this budget there are covered travel costs, a laptop, and some medical insurance thing. She said she'd try to cut the EFC (but it was highly unlikely). Unfortunately, she said that they could only increase the budget so much, and my grants would be cut slightly.

EDIT:

So, all in all, just call up your fin. aid department and talk it out with them.
