After the state budget cuts, scholarship amounts in NJ are probably going to be drastically reduced. I got into Rutgers about two weeks ago, but I still haven't received my letter in the mail or anything about scholarships. (I think info about scholarships is supposed to come March 1 at the latest.)

Can anyone who already received their scholarship packet please post the amount they received and basic stats so others can gauge if they have a shot in getting one?

Surprisingly, it looks like Rutgers will still offer full rides... if you look at the scholarships section of the admissions site. It's no longer a simple matrix, so who knows how hard it will be to nab one of those though.

Rutgers just sent me a letter telling me I've been awarded a Presidential Scholarship. I have no idea how or why they are giving me this, but it is for $17,000 a year. For me, it's wonderful!

Congratulations! That is amazing--your scholarship covers almost all of the cost. If you don't mind me asking, were your SAT scores or other qualifications really good? Also, approximately how long was it between the time you received your admissions packet and your scholarship packet? Is the scholarship for any of the schools at Rutgers? Do you think you are going to go to Rutgers?

Yeah, my SATs were good enough I guess - 790 Math - 710 CR - 690 Writing. Don't know yet if I will go to Rutgers because I'm waiting on a few other schools and checking out the financials I get there, but the Rutgers Honors Program is pretty good and I really like the idea of no loans.

Thanks for responding. I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the admissions process at the other schools you applied to. I am sure you will succeed wherever you go.

i am instate. gpa ~ 3.5 at a really selective /competitive school, and ACT of 32. Scholarship of 2500/yr and accepted to honors -- got both letters about a month after admittance.

For those of you that received the merit scholarships, does your letter say the $ is guaranteed all four years (if you meet the GPA requirements, etc)?

Someone told me that RU and TCNJ only guarantee it next yr and after that, it depends on the state (Corzine) policy at that time. Since Corzine had no trouble cutting the Gov School budget shortly before the kids were set to go or making drastic cuts to RU last yr, many families we know don't trust that once they get in, the $ will not be offered in their remaining yrs - knowing that most kids won't want to transfer once they're settled. At several college fairs, even the RU reps wouldn't give an answer. TCNJ said that the $ comes from the school itself (not the state) so it's guaranteed - but I'm not sure that's true.

So, does your merit letter guarantee the scholarship all four years (like at most other schools)? This would be great news!

That website is pretty informative about scholarships. It clearly states that the scholarship is renewable for all 4 yrs granted that you maintain academic standards. I believe that means 3.0 GPA but correct me if they changed standards since I received my schol. 2 yrs ago.

Congrats to everyone who was offered a scholarship! If anyone has questions about Rutgers, its honors program, or anything else, feel free to msg me or ask on the forum.

I got my acceptance letter in the mail but didn't apply by the "Priority Deadline." Does this mean i'm not going to be considered for any scholorships?

Thanks for posting the link, supermtt37. I didn't check the Rutgers website in awhile and didn't realize they updated it.

bella89, the scholarship info comes after the admissions info. You will still be considered for scholarships. You just will not be given priority. I don't know how much applying later effects rewards, but if you are way overqualified, I think they will still give you something.

Now for my concerns... The Rutgers website says, "Admitted students with ranks in the top 5% of their class and 1500 or better on the critical reading and math sections of the SAT (or 34 ACT composite score) are considered [for the Presidential Scholarship]." Does this mean that if I do not have a 1500 on the SAT, I will not be considered? :'( I was sort of depending on a large scholarship from Rutgers because I plan on paying for college by myself. I checked the Rutgers website after I got my SAT scores back, and it didn't say anything about an SAT cutoff for scholarships. I took the SAT twice. My highest composite score (M+V) is 1430 and combined score is 1480. Does this rule me out, or do I still have a shot? My other credentials are really good by the way. Please tell me what you think. I'm really nervous/mad. If I knew there was a cutoff, I would have taken the SATs again. Do you think I should still do this? Please respond. Thanks in advance.

My d's friend had a 1490 and didn't get the highest award from TCNJ. THis was 2 yrs ago when they used the matrix system. I think RU did also. They said their rules were firm (and to be fair, they gave out graduated amounts relative to scores so it wasn't like she got nothing).

I think you may fhave a better chance under this new system that seems to rely less on #s and takes a look at the whole candidate, including essays - or so that's what the rep told me.
