yea runforfun21. Similar terms and fancy folder type thing. I guess they may individualize the offers. I was somewhat surprised at my acceptance letter also, 'cause it was kinda of personal..

drummerdude_07, maye you will get it later. Mine came in a separate package. BTW, I am in Florida.

corranged, I am going to Brown. It was my first choice and I am thrilled. I will keep on visiting Chicago often though, my favorite city in the world!

MovieBuff, so which post is incorrect? The one above or the one from you below:

"About the latino thing, I am glad I am not the only one a little "sensitive" to the issue. I almost fell of my chair when I read the name of the dance! Talk about tacky! It is almost funny to see the efforts that some people think they have to go through to make a certain ethnic group "comfortable" ? ( is that the idea?) At the end, I think it just helps perpetuate stereotypes.

It also happens that I am as competitive as any "anglo" student. And like I said before ( and I guess is one of my pet peeves ) ...is "latino" even an english word, or it has just crossed over like so many others..? I would expect academic institutions of the caliber of Duke to be aware of these issues."

It doesn't help anyone here to post false or misleading information.

SBDad, URM are mexican americans, native american, mainland puertorricans and afro americans. I do not belong to any of those groups nor I got offered minority aid. ( I wish ! ) That is exactly what I am trying to say.

You posted: "I think the scholarship they are talking about is related to URM status". Well, YOU thought wrong. That is all.

It doesn't help anyone here to make false assumptions. It all leads to misleading information.

To those who are CPS (Chicago Public School) students, the University of Chicago also offers five four-year full-tuition (roughly $36,000) scholarships. In my case, I applied RD, so the notification came with the admissions package. Not sure when early applicants are notified...

I have always thought that merit scholarships, for the most part were tailored for specific applicants except for some well known scholarships that are always offered.

Some people have said that internationals do not get aid...however we heard from a guy from Brazil that got a full ride. I guess it all depends...

The definiton you are using is the one that was formerly used by the American Association of Medical Colleges. That was changed to include all people of hispanic origin.

The truth is that the definition of a URM varies from school to school. Each individual school decides which group is, or is not, underrepresented at their school. Did you not indicate that you were hispanic in your college application? It would stretch credulity to believe otherwise.

And actually no, merit scholarships are not tailored to individual applicants. The programs are defined up front and administered in that manner.

The facts are that Chicago gives out merit scholarships for full tuition, 1/3 of tuition, Chicago Public School graduates and for minority recruitment. Since yours is not one the first two and you are not a URM, you should call them and inform them of their error.

And by the way, congratulations on your acceptances at Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth, Duke, JHU, Georgetown and Chicago. Only a waitlist at Yale to blemish your record. I know I've probably missed some, so forgive me. It's a remarkable achievment.

Agree with you. I am sure you will also love the city. Awesome! I have some friends that will be going to Northwestern and I plan to visit. I can never stay away from Chicago for too long !

regarding the college honor scholarships, which is 1/3 tuition, do you guys know if the 100 people selected are of the incoming freshman class (around 1200) or for all the people that were accepted (3000+)?
