scholarships

The unused scholarships are not "handed down." The money isn't just wasted, either. It is just used for some other purpose or for future scholarships. The scholarship money is distributed with the knowledge that not all of it will be used. That is taken into account.

Are those of you who are getting scholarships getting them seperate from financial aid packages? Or does it come in the same mailing?

I received my $10,000 University Scholarship in my acceptance package a few days ago. (I did not, however, apply for financial aid, so I don't know if the scholarship letters universally come in the acceptance package.)

Midmo, I am in the same position as your son - full tuition to Vandy, my second choice, with TN HOPE money on top of it: a total deal of ~$40,000 a year plus a study abroad stipend. But I love Chicago, even if it will cost me $40,000 a year or something dumb like that. I'm having a really hard time with the decision.

Drummerdude, my son was accepted EA, so I'm no help.

They are separate from financial aid packages... in the scholarship letter it says that my financial aid information will arrive later. (It's still not here yet.)

Ok...I was EA too, but I got a fin. aid package in the mail yesterday.

We have not received the financial aid package yet.

I think they should notify us losers so that we don't feel the need to watch for the mailman in the window.

Seriously... I'm international and don't know what to do, because it takes like two weeks for mail to get here. I haven't received my acceptance packets from colleges I was accepted to in mid-March yet.

i am so frustrated. chances are i'll only be attending chicago if i get a scholarship. so if i got a scholarship, i'd like to visit campus next week. well, i dont live in the US, so travelling there is a pretty big deal. now how am i supposed to decide to buy my plane tickets if i don't know whether or not i got the scholarship.

will they tell me if i got one if i call?

Just call and explain that you are an international and need to know. If they won't tell you, then you will be right where you started, no worse.

To the internationals: UChicago WILL tell you whether you won a scholarship or not if you call.

Really? How did you come across this information?

JShon, it's mentioned in the official UChicago blog

cool thanks. Thought the admissions office would close down the blog after the decisions were released... obviously I was wrong

So my financial aid info was overnight expressed and I got it today. If I got this before any scholarship notification, does that mean I didn't get one?

I'm thinking you didn't get one. Neither did I, though they offered a little grant money that they expect to come from the state of Illinois.
