My son was accepted early admission and did very well in high school and on his SATs (M690, V750, W770). Is it possible that he will be eligible for any merit scholarships? If so, when can he expect to hear about this. I know the website suggests he might be eligible and would hear by 4/1, just wondering what past actual experiences are. thanks.

to be eligible for the presidential scholarship, you needed minimum 700 on math and verbal. Letters were sent out in december for candidates and a special application was already due in for january 18th.

For those who submitted the application has anyone heard further about Presidential Scholarship?

I am curious about merit scholarships other than the Presidential Scholarships. I think others are offered that provide less than a full scholarship.

The people who get invited for an interview, but aren't awarded the presidential scholarship, get a different merit scholarship covering roughly half of the tuition, i want to say. I am unsure of any other merit scholarships though. Haven't come across any.

The information session talked about both the Presidential and Villanova Scholarship. The Villanova Scholarship winners will find out on April 1st.

Thanks, cbrochill. Any idea what the amount ranges are?

"For the 2007-2008 academic year, 1,258 prospective students were offered more than $4.4 million through the Villanova Scholars program."

I guess that means that there are other types of scholarships? Someone want to clarify on this?

btw, that quote is from the link that cbrochill provided

sorry i dont remember what the ranges were, but the Presidential Scholarship was the only big one. At the info session they said that the other scholarship offered was only a couple grand.

I was at the early admission week end. The Villanova scholarship ranges from 1,000-12,000 and they said the letters would go out April 1.

Thanks, I did not make it to the financial aid session that weekend. Did they give any guidelines on how they decide who gets it and how much?

Villanova does not do a good job of telling you this, but in order to be considered, you MUST file FAFSA and CSS Profile or else you won't get anything.

So, even if you don't think you qualify for finaid, file these ASAP (it may already be too late, call the finaid office).

There is a subtle note on the website that says this, but I bet many many people miss this each year.

CSS Profile? When I looked for Villanova through the search engine on the site nothing popped up. I thought it was just FAFSA. Or, oh no... Did I miss something?

No, CSS Profile not needed here.

Yikes, we missed that fine print. We did send in FAFSA-late. Now working on the Villanova aid form. I don't understand why they need this info if it is merit aid. Of course, since our forms were late, we will likely not qualify. Major disappointment for us!

FYI, for the Villanova scholarship you need atleast a 1300, with min 650 math and 650 verbal. I personally found this frustrating last year because I did way better on verbal (760) than math (610), but still met the 1300 requirement! I have to say Villanova does a great job with financial aid (especially grants) to compensate for the difficulty to get scholarships!

My son totaled 1440, with well over 650 in each, so we were hoping for a merit scholarship. Hopefully, our late application won't totally deprive him of that.

If my SATS were Math-650, Critical Reading- 680, and Writing- 690----do i have any shot at getting a scholarship at Nova? (obviously not the presidential one)

From the reading I have done, it looks like you may be eligible, as long as your GPA is at least 3.8. I think someone else on this thread said the merit scholarships are from 1 to 12K.

at EA day they said the average merit package for a student was 4k
