I know I am jumping way ahead...but I was wondering....

Let's say a student is offered admission & scholarship into a great BFA program from School "A"; then School "B" (student's No. 1 choice) offers admission with a smaller scholarship. Would it be okay to call School "B" and see if they would match the larger offer? I would hate to burn bridges, however, (for us) cost is a factor in choosing the school. I was thinking it might be okay to just ask that question...not demand or anything...just ask. Even if the school offered a little more money, it would still be worth the phone call.

What do you think? Is this totally out of line to do?

There was a thread regarding this very thing a month or two ago over in the music major area. You might check that out, as I recall it had some very good information on it.

It is not at all out of line, and a polite request can bring you some positive results. My D did exactly that; she sent a courteous note to admissions, and followed up with a phone call. The school did increase their financial offer.

srw, Thanks so much for bumping that thread...yes, it is exactly what I am talking about. I don't think my D would like to make that call asking for more money (she's so afraid of a black mark by her name)...she thought it would be an okay idea if my husband called, though.

Now I'm wondering if it is better if she called herself and talked to the MT department (I would have thought my husband should call the admissions office).

In any event, it's good to know that it is possible to negotiate with a positive outcome.
