scholarships

does anyone have information on the difficulty of obtaining scholarship money at SC? Most of the descriptions states that the recipeitants have SAT scores averages of 1300 and ACt of about 28. Can this be right?

I can only speak for OOS student applicants.

In the past, 1200-1250 plus SATs had been the cutoff for some type of merit aid but it is also calculated on a grid that includes HS GPA. In other words (just for an example) a combination 3.5 GPA and 1250 SAT qualifies for "X" scholarship and/or 3.8 GPA and 1300 GPA qualifies for "Y" scholarship.

What has happened in the last three years is that the competition has increased as more OOS students have recognized that the scholarship opportunities are a very good deal. The subsequent applicant pool has gotten stronger each year and the bar for being awarded a scholarship and the overall freshman class GPA have been rising with it. An additional factor that has contributed to this is the addition of the Capstone Scholars program which has increased the number of strong applicants who actually matriculate at USC.

Hope this helps...

yes thank you
