I was accepted into Newhouse last week and have yet to receive scholarship notification. Is it likely that I will not be given a merit scholarship? I realize that statistically my SAT scores do not place me within the top percentage of accepted students, but I do have quite a few extra-curricular activities and a good amount of work experience.

After mid-year report:
SAT: 610 M 640 V 670 W
GPA: 96.62
Rank: 27/312

Activities: Yearbook editor (two years) and staff (four years), school newspaper editor/writer (two years), marching/concert band (four years, treasurer senior year), National Honor Society (two years).

Work experience: News correspondent/photographer for local newspaper since September, accounting clerk last summer, worked as customer service rep. in a grocery store for over one year.

I thought I'd at least be given consideration for a Dean's scholarship. Thoughts?

Thank you.

Is your financial aid package available on MySlice yet? If so, it will be included on there. Also, impressive journalism credentials.

you totally will get something. my ec's are not as nice as yours, sat score is slightly higher and i got 18000ish.

Hmmm... my MySlice is updated; unfortunately, there isn't a merit scholarship listed. Someone on Facebook said that their scholarship notification came in the mail and was not listed on MySlice, while their financial aid was. So, I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed...

Does everyone getting a letter informing them of whether they got a scholarship or not? I live in CA so I'm thinking it's either taking longer to get here or I didnt' receive a scholarship and hence, did not receive a letter. What's the story behind this?

Well, my financial aid package came today. I was not given any sort of scholarship. I think it's safe to say I won't be attending Syracuse next year.

This is devastating.

Corduroy, what are your other choices? If you are sure Syracuse is off the table now for financial reasons, give yourself a day to be devastated, and then look hard at what the other schools have to offer. Read the course offerings, decide what you might take, visit if you haven't, spend a lot of time on the websites, etc. Though Newhouse is great, it has dropped lower on my son's list because he got really psyched about another option that he knows will be a wonderful place for him. (No scholarship news here, either.) This kind of advice is all over CC, but I just thought I'd post some encouragement here, too, because you sound sad!
