They haven't even given me a loan yet :'( I haven't heard anything from them at all

Well my financial aid counselor at my high school adjusted my FAFSA ( i dont know why) so now my financial aid status says i have a bar on my file and needs to be reviewed by a financial aid counselor before i can be awarded. anyone know how long that takes????

7th/500+, 4.4 GPA, 1440 SAT (Old one)

Wow, and you're from Texas??? what's your efc if u dont mind me asking

Well let's just say it's over how much UT costs per year. I'm from Texas, yeah. =/

But should the merit scholarships have nothing to do with the EFC? The only reason mine is that high is because my parents have been saving for a LONG time. We are as frugal as you can get. I have loans covering for pretty much the full price, but that doesn't help does it?

The President's Achievement Scholarship (PAS) is designed to recognize high school scholars who have overcome a significant amount of adversity in their lives, while performing at a very high academic level compared to their high school peers

The Longhorn Opportunity Scholarship (LOS) program offered by The University of Texas at Austin is a unique and very special commitment made by the University to the students enrolled at a select number of high schools in Texas. For students enrolled at these schools, the University has provided a guarantee that a specific number of scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors for their use at UT-Austin. These scholarships are $5,000 per year for up to four years of study at UT-Austin. This scholarship will provide a major source of funds to cover a large portion of mandatory tuition and fees.
(This one goes to high schools with underrepresentation at UT)

Then there's the national merit ones.

This award is given to one incoming freshman every four years, and covers all tuition, books and room and board for four years. Financial need is required. The student must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be pursuing a degree in the College of Liberal Arts with a preference for government majors. (If, during the four years, the student changes majors, the scholarship will continue.)

A lot of them have some sort of financial need thing in there

"Well let's just say it's over how much UT costs per year. I'm from Texas, yeah. =/"

I know it ;)

Oh great, considering there are like 50 PEOPLE going to UT from my school and I guess my EFC kills me for the other. Does UT give out any merit aid? Or is it all circumstancial?

Darn it hookemhorns!

Well umm, I know where you live. ^_^

j/k! (Or am I . . .)

Does anybody know if UT will negotiate aid amount? I got a lot of money from Ohio State, but UT is my #1.

It's best to contact them yourself to find out. So I'm guessing merit aid does not exist at UT. You still haven't gotten any loans though hook?

nothing yet :(

Isn't the national merit awards for merit?

Those are the scholarships they have. Did you include in your scholarship application that you wanted to be considered for the Texas Exes scholarships because there are a lot of them based on merit.

Nope.

Hey, I heard that different departments give out scholarships at different times. Engineering gave theirs out a long time ago, while business still hasn't (at least I hope not)....

I hope them looking at my FAFSA so late is a good sign :o (It probably isn't)

Hey hookem, what kind of financial aid did UT give you? Are u living on campus as well?

They haven't given me anything yet, the sites been saying that "they're processing" my FAFSA for over 3 weeks. I want to live on campus if they give me enough aid (jester probably)

Yeah, a friend of mine turned in her FAFSA on March 30 and already got aid. This sucks.....what is your EFC...mine's 3750 and all i got so far was the president's scholarship

I now have:

BARS
Our records indicate that you have the following bar(s). You must clear all bars with the appropriate office, before we can continue to process your application.
Your FAFSA data has been adjusted and requires review by a financial aid counselor. No action is required by you at this time.

I just made a correction to my fafsa a few days ago, my EFC went up by 11$, so what do I need to do for this?
