Scholarships?

Okay, here's my problem.

I have test scores (31 ACT and 1350/2100 SAT) that easily meet the requirements for the sutomatic scholarships. However, I have a 3.678 GPA at a school that only offers 1 weighted class, which I have already taken and is factored into that GPA, and only a top 20% class rank at a small, pathetic country school at the edge of hickland. However, my GPA tanked to that level over the years because I have a bad string of B+'s, which weight as 3.0, along with doing bad in band freshman year, because, well, band's not my thing. I have self-studied 2 AP's and passed both (1 of them with a 5!!!), and I earned the highest grade on my APUSH test out of anyone in my school since the program started in 2001. I also can academically differentiate myself from my peers due to the fact that I currently hold the highest SAT, PSAT, ASVAB, and second-highest ACT score in my grade, and if I was in a previous grade within the past 5 years or a future grade, I would be in the top 10 (or even 5) percent with my current GPA.[/rant]

Anyways, enough with my rants. Are there any scholarship opportunities available for me? If I bring my GPA up to a 3.8, which I can do by the end of my senior year with perfect A's, could I still qualify for scholarships?

Thanks in advance for advice.

I believe the cut off for submitting grades/scores was late January or early February this year so you won’t have your entire Sr. year to bring the grades up. With all A’s first semester (are you on semesters?) you should be able to bring it up to at least 3.7 which will qualify you for the $2000/scholarship. Not knowing your specific grades throughout high school, my very rough calculations show it probably isn’t numerically possible to raise it to 3.8 in a single semester. I’ve learned from watching my D’s gpa that they go up pretty slowly even with all “A’s” and a different system for weighting grades.

Yeah. Plus all those things about “best in my grade” or “in any other grade” aren’t really ever factored into consideration. I know that’s rough, but it’s true.

OHKID, this page discusses some of your questions. I don’t think IU had this page up until this admissions cycle, because these scholarships have become wildly popular, and last year was the first year they ran out of them. [Frequently Asked Questions: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington](http://www.scholarships.indiana.edu/pages/faq.php) It says that applicants have until January 15, to submit SAT/ACT scores to qualify for scholarships. But it says nothing about increasing your gpa with your first semester senior grades. Also, I have seen posts in this forum by students who said that they had gpa’s at the end of their senior year that were higher than when they applied but their automatic scholarships were not upgraded. So I don’t think you have much of a chance. The FAQ also states that even if the gpa is only .01 below a qualifying level for the gpa, that they will not give the automatic scholarship. Weirdly, they say that applicants with a GED and high SAT/ACT scores can possibly get an automatic scholarship. These scholarships are designed to raise IU’s standardized test scores, and they are attracting so many qualifying students that some people who qualified but applied relatively late were turned down for the scholarships because IU ran out of funding for them.
