Hi everyone! I know that NYU has some scholarships and I was wondering what type of applicant would recieve them? Would this person have to have 2400 on SATS and top GPA, or would top 5% of class, with good SAT scores, and interesting extra activies/awards also make a person competitive enough for such a scholarship?

We just received a financial aid mailing from NYU. The answer is that each school within NYU will have a different answer for you. This paper says that 4% of students receive merit aid. So…that’s about all there is to go by. That tells me that one would need to be in APPROXIMATELY the top 4% of their applicant pool. But they also don’t indicate HOW MUCH, of course. So you can be top 4%, and get only…$1000 and still be included in this number. The most I’ve personally ever heard of (FWIW) is $32,000. The cost of attendance is $55,000.

I’ve seen the stats of someone in Steinhardt who got a pretty big scholarship, and they were good, but not stellar. But Steinhardt has music majors, hospitality majors. So their application pool is NOT the same as, say, Stern. There…you probably would need Ivy stats to get any type of scholarship (I’m guessing). Can’t know until you try/apply. Go for it. And good luck.
