Scholarships

Hello, just had a quick question about scholarships. I'm receiving financial aid so I do have a work study. Do my scholarships go towards student contribution AND work study? Which one gets paid off first, or do we get to choose?

I’m not quite sure how to answer your question, but I’ll try my best. Whether or not you get a work-study job, you will still receive the work-study money. Thus, you do not have to pay anything off. I recommend taking a work-study job or any job for that matter because you get a lot of work experience but you also get to keep a lot of the money you make.

If you’re talking about using outside scholarships to cover the cost of tuition, housing, etc., using them and allocating the distribution of money is up to the discretion of Penn’s Student Financial Services. So if you have outside scholarships assigned to Penn, contact Penn’s Student Financial Services as soon as possible and let them know. Usually, the money will go towards your tuition, housing, etc. but there are cases where Penn does not accept certain scholarships. Penn might also take away some financial aid money because you have these scholarships. Ultimately, you’ll end up paying the same amount they assigned you unless you have large amounts outside scholarships.

The student financial contribution gets paid off first, then work study.
