I’m thinking that they want the story to completely unfold in the allotted 15-50 pages… it also says that if you submit more than the limit, only the first 50 pages or 5 chapters will be read.

^so we’re supposed to submit sections from each part of the book? (beginning, middle, end)

I think you can do it either way. It says that the winner will “have a chance to finish their manuscript with an editor.”

I’m a junior, (probably) going to enter for the first time for an essay as well because I have to write something like this anyways, so. Looks pretty interesting, since I don’t mind writing.

Yeah, I suppose it probably doesn’t really matter as long as it follows the guidelines and has continuity…

The Senior General Writing Portfolio due date is January 8th, correct? What is everyone submitting in the portfolio? I’m doing mostly fiction, if not completely fiction…

I’m entering a short story, and I might submit a portion of a novel I’m working on. I’m using the word novel very lightly haha

can you submit two different pieces of poetry on the same day?
Sugh, i wish I could PM my poetry to someone and get an opinion.

Hi fellow writers/artists :D

I have some questions about the submission format.

It says to “attach two copies of the registered submission form, which must be stapled to the writing in the upper left corner.”

Do we staple the original registered submission form AND attach two more copies? Or is it two copies total? It’s not very clear.

Below, it says

“Enclose the above formatted manuscript in a 9 x 12 envelope, with two copies of the signed submission forms, etc…”

This sounds like two copies + the signed submission forms. Otherwise, the signatures would both be on copies. So one original + two copies?

Has anyone here submitted writing before?

Two copies only, both signed. I gave in my entry in person and I was told that my submission format was correct.

I’m probably gonna submit one of my paintings. My art teacher’s been pushing me to participate.

can you reexplain that lumin ?
i didn’t quite understand it.

I submitted a poem and a piece of persuasive writing that I had written earlier. I wish I had been able to edit them a bit before submitting but I honestly didn’t have time. my persuasive writing isn’t so great…but I’m hoping the poem is OK

the thing is, I’ve never written poetry before, so I wasn’t sure how to judge its quality

^Nil, I was asking whether we’re supposed to attach two copies of the submission forms total or two copies + the original (three total).

According to Arquellenia, we’re supposed to attach two signed copies.

Edit: Arquellenia, do we staple both copies to the writing in the upper left hand corner?

question,if I have two poems I like, should I put them as a collection of poems to save money even though they have nothing in common ?

Are you allowed to send in pieces that you’ve published online or works that you’ve turned in as class assignments for grades?

^ I think the class assignments should be fine. I submitted an article I wrote for our newspaper (but its a club, not a class)

I don’t know about published works. I don’t see why not…you could always call their office. They were very helpful when I called

^What number did you call?

I can’t find the office number on the scholastic art and writing website.

Is anyone else submitting a General Writing Portfolio? Do we need, like, a cover page and everything? I’m so confused…

You should attach two signed copies of the form to one copy of your work.

As for published words, I’m 99% sure (can’t find the FAQ) that already published works are out of the question, as Scholastics, if you win, gets the rights to your work for up to two years afterwards.

@Luminouzz i think the number depends on the region. After you type in the zip code for your school, it should say under the FAQ. Its one of the first questions. along with their address
