Scholastic Art and Writing 2017

I know there’s plenty of time until the deadlines, but is anyone on CC looking into submitting to Scholastic A&W. If so, what categories are you looking into and have you begun your app? I’m especially curious about if you will be creating new art/writing pieces or simply submitting the best of the work you already have.

Personally, I think I will be submitting some of my poetry! :slight_smile:

Poetry and Photography (and maybe Critical Essay)!

How does it work?

@CoolCakes you submit to your local group which you can find on the art and writing website and then you can win awards on a local and national level. I think there’s also some money prizes!

Are you guys going to submit everything you wrote or just what you consider to be your best work?
Wondering because I have like 14 things I could submit, but not sure which are going to win, so I’m kinda unsure about which pieces to submit or should I just submit everything?

@jxl637 Personally I’m just gonna submit my best work I have! 14 things seems like a lot because you have to pay separate fees, I think.

I’d ask writing peers or teachers which pieces are best.

My ELA teacher wants me to do it. I’m only going to enter 1-2 things for writing, but it’d be cool to win. I’ve won a few journalism awards but nothing for fiction so idk how this is going to work out

@jclwriting There are non-fiction categories, I believe.

Maybe poetry

I’m submitting about 5 or 6 things. Most of those are poetry and the other is a dramatic script. The poetry is all completed, but I’m still working on the script.

I’m submitting some of my art, I don’t expect to win, but why not?

Submitted in my forms yesterday! Now I’m just waiting for February 3rd for the results to come out. This is my first time entering so I have no idea what to expect

lmao very very late but for educators, if i created my work at home, could i put my parents as an educator? I don’t have a formal person that helped me along in the process.

Hi everyone! When your Scholastic Arts submissions were sent, what was the statement on your profile under each work? Was it “Submission Complete” or “Deadline has passed”?

After submitting my writing piece, once the writing deadline passed, mine said “Your writing deadline has passed” underneath. My art submission deadline isn’t closed yet so under those submissions, it says, “Your registration is complete”.

Has anyone received any sort of information email yet? The email I got after submitting said “More information about the award recipients list will be emailed by January 20.”

@pielovereternal I was notified today, but I do remember reading that due to the large volume of applications only winners were notified.

@LockAndKi which region are you? any one of the regions at large?

@pacificnwgal I’m in the Mid-Carolinas region
