Thank you!
Are there any seniors who got any awards for their portfolios?
i got a silver key for mine!
OMG congrats!!! That’s seriously incredible. Out of curiosity, are u a senior?
I’m a junior
One gold key and five honorable mentions here!!! Congrats to everyone else who won something. And for those who didn’t, remember scholastic is super subjective and doesn’t speak to your skills as a writer.
Thank you! and congratulations to you too!
Holy cow. 2 Gold Keys and 3 Silver Keys - one of the Golds is an American Voices Nominee. Never, ever saw it coming. Huge congrats to all winners here!
I got 1 silver key for my art portfolio and 9 Honorable Mentions in both art and writing. I submitted over thirty pieces to Scholastic and three portfolios, so basically this year was a huge L for me lol. I’m a senior and this was my last shot at getting a gold key or national recognition, so I guess I’ll just curl up and pretend that everything is fine. Congrats to everyone who won something significant!
noo don’t say that, there’s plenty of other opportunities to publish/win like youngarts and a bunch of others! If you wrote 30 well-edited pieces, then there are 30 venues awaiting your awesome writing
I’m a senior, so this year was my last chance for higher recognition both Scholastic and YoungArts. I’ve never received a gold key or national recognition in Scholastic for all 4 years of HS, and I didn’t get anything for YoungArts this year or junior year. I’ll look into other opportunities for both my writing and my art, but I’m not getting my hopes up anymore. At least I have a bunch of for-profit and for-charity indie anthologies that I can list on my college application, although not receiving any national recognition could potentially hurt my chances at the competitive programs I’m applying to. Thanks for the encouragement, though
Mom speaking here, but let me tell all budding artists/writers a tale.
This year my daughter received 5 gold keys, an American Voices nom, and a silver and HM for 2 separate writing portfolios. Yes - a pretty good year, but her path in Scholastic has been all over the place.
First year, as an 8th grader, she cleaned up and did very well, 9th grade not very well, 10th grade cleaned up again and received a best in grade nod for her region, 11th grade verrry disappointing for her. The moral is that on any given day, depending on who is judging, you might do well or you might not - but at the end of the day it is just once person’s opinion and will not make or break any of you. Do not give anyone the power to take away your gifts to the world.
Also, my daughter tried for years with YoungArts and never received anything, This year she got a Merit Award. So the moral of the story is never give up and never stop believing in yourselves.
Thanks! I have 1 more shot at scholastic after this year and 2 at YoungArts so I’ll make sure to cast a wide net and be OK with the results.
my results came in! 5 gold keys, 6 silver, 6 honorable mention!
I won a silver key and an honorable mention!
Hi, congratulations to all who won awards first! Second, could I ask how much weight does a Regional Silver Key award on writing has? I’m thinking whether to send the Silver Key award to my high school application. I’m a 8th grader applying for high school. This is the first year I participated. Could you kindly comment? Many thanks! By the way, for Best-in-Grade award, do you need to apply for it separately, or they would just give to you if they think is good? I know some of the other awards you need to apply separately. Thank you so much everyone!
Thank you!
Hey guys, is there any data on the chances of medalling based on the category?
Wait I should probably give some context to my awards. I am in the Connecticut region. I won the silver key in sci-fi and the honorable mention in the personal essay.
Yeah I’m curious about the number of Gold Keys that receive national recognition! I think it may be around 1/5 (in my region 5% of entries got gold keys, and i heard somewhere that 1% of submissions get medals)
