Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2009

I guess it’s b/c I don’t get a chance to think. Too much thinking can damage your brain, lol.

Oh, senate123, congrats on getting into Dartmouth! Lol, I stared at it for five seconds, wondering why a college student was able to apply to the Scholastic thing. But then I saw the year.

^funkadoodledee

if you got the tree e-mail, i’m 99% sure you got a gold key. they only submit it to gold key winners.

thanks so much, funkadoodledee! and congrats to you too - on the tree award/ highly probable gold key!

Lol - thanks. You guys as well (of course). I’m happy now! Well, I was happy before too. Yayayayayayayayayayayayya. :)

Wheatbread - are you a junior in hs too?

yup! I got Gold Key and the tree email. Is anyone going to enter it? The chances are slim since there’s only one award and we’re competing against some of the top writers in the nation!

btw- does anyone know how many gold keys won and how many of them make it to nationals?

I think there’s a bronze, silver, and gold medal in each category - but there might be finalists or honorable mentions (but I’m not sure). Gold keys in all usually represent the top 10% of the nation, and national awards, the top 1%.

I would enter it if I knew w/ absolute certainty that I got a gold key (I really hope!). I’m starting to get worried now…unless my mom took it? She did that last year, and didn’t tell me until like a month later. But by then, I had completely forgotten about it, lol.

Anyway, congrats! Are you entering? I dont’ really know any of the ppl they listed, though - fail.

hey i wouldn’t worry about the gold key. i just got notified TODAY - and it arrived in my teacher’s mailbox. seriously, do not worry, and check with your teacher!

congrats everyone!

hey i know everyone has received info about gold key awards, but what about silver key awards? would they have been mentioned in the packets our teachers received if you won one, or did teachers solely receive info about gold keys?

and yeah funk i’m a junior on hs (this is my friends account though, too)

are all of you guys RAL people? im still waiting and waiting :/

einnob, I’m RAL and still waiting for any signs of a response. :</p>

out of curiosity, when are we notified about the national gold/silver awards?

hey i’m RAL and i just got notified today that i won the gold key  so i was wondering, is it just one gold key in each category for RAL? (My category was personal memoir, btw) Then do they talk the gold keys from every region and choose one person for the national award or more than one?

I entered RAL and won a key for a scifi writing piece which was submitted as part of a portfolio.

but I’m still confused about the whole process. how many gold keys are awarded in each region in each category? (ie: how special should I feel?) and when are portfolio winners for RAL writing announced–were they already announced?

that’s a good question. has anybody been notified about their portfolio yet??

Well, regional gold keys rep. the top 10% of the nation -and they pick several ppl in each category and region. It’s not until the NATIONAL awards do they select one from each region.

Whoops, I mean category.

^they select multiple entries from each category, i believe.

congratulations to everyone here. i received a gold key for journalism in RAL; i’ve heard though that journalism is one of the least competitive categories. is this true?

meh. why speculate when you can use that time to feel good about yourself? :)

but yeah-- id assume journalism is less competitive then say, short story or poetry. except if they award less keys to journalism, then its different. who knows

does anyone know when the national art awards are given out?
i got three pieces sent to NYC and im wondering when ill hear what happens to them
