Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2009

All those sci fi books sound great! Personally I think sci fi is one of the harder types of writing to do, so kudos to anyone who tries it!

Are you all juniors,or are some seniors or are there any lower grades? I’m quite envious of those who can try again next year…but luck to those who do try again!

I’m a senior and I feel the same way! I’m kicking myself for not trying the first two years… man, I really hope they haven’t decided on a winner yet and are just really late in getting to it

Junior here (: Definitely gonna try again next year.

I too hope one of us gets in. Honestly, if the subject manner was to be aligned with Push’s prior material, I wish something about it was noted in the guidelines because, from what I read, the subject of the novel entries can be anything. I hope they aren’t chosing works with intentions it will “fit in nicely” with the other stuff.

My submission is 44 pages in 10 pt font because, at 12, it would’ve been around 60.

2 days left…someone must know something

Shaddap.

If anyone knows, it’s the jurors. No annoucements yet. Like that other person said, he/she was told a couple days AFTER May 15th.

Yeah, but that was second place. You don’t even get anything for second. Except a medal. Not to be a downer. I say there’s hope until they post the list… two more days! OMG

ugh! i’m so pathetic. i keep imagining horror stories where i get disqualified for spacing something wrong or forgetting to attach the outline or accidentally putting my name somewhere it shouldn’t be…
two DAYS.
D:

Don’t worry; I do the exact same thing. I think it’s normal. At least for us paranoid people :)

You DO get to go to new york for 2nd place, so… (:

Alivia, that itself is an honor, though. Colleges will most-likely look very highly upon that.

University of Pennsylvania didn’t seem to care :P. I didn’t go to New York either, or any of the three years I’ve won awards (and I got portfolio silver at this year)…it’s too expensive. My school didn’t care either (although it IS Idaho…)

That said, getting a silver for Novel was definitely awesome, and those who get them this year probably wrote some definitely awesome novels. I’m just slightly bitter. Good luck to everyone!!

I’ve heard editors are just ordinary people who have their own likes and dislikes, so its good to try lots of venues for submission. From reading the beginning piece on one of the authors selected for this award in the past on the PUSH website, I do wonder if the “jurors” or judges tastes are more in line with teen angst and less in athletes and positive things which is what I wrote about. Seems 2 me unless you write about bulimia or some other twisted existence, you won’t be chosen…just a thought, please don’t tell me shattap…only kidding. :o)

Tomorrow, everyone.

I’m so nervous for tomorrow, yet so excited! Oh the stress of it all! There’s less than twenty-four hours now…do you think they’ll post anything in the morning, or more towards the afternoon? On PUSH? Since it is their contest, or will it be Scholastic? The suspense!

Pretty sure it’ll be on PUSH. Correct me if I’m wrong

I can’t wait. I’m excited but won’t be disappointed if . . . well, yea.

If not, I’ll look for some more novel-type contests I can send this in to, something more relevent to what I’m working on. Perhaps some experimental novel contest.

Guys I just googled this (I didn’t enter I was just trying to see what it was all about) and the winners are listed right now, apparently.

wait, WHERE?

Is that for real? Or is it some kind of crazy joke? I just looked and couldn’t find anything
