Ooh, yes. Gossip Girl-ey books and shows infuriate me… and make me wonder what kind of person actually thinks this kind of stuff is good ):

Ah, girlie-romantic books…fine for a beach day, but other than that, never. Books that give a great conflict (mainly a character with his or herself) and a good plot, with eccentric supporting characters…that is great. It needs depth, too, of course, or else it becomes a frivilous whiney novel…

So, I’m guessing PUSH went ahead and decided today, but didn’t post anything yet…Oh the doom of the unknown!

I don’t like the books very much either, but the show is actually very good.

I never said I didn’t like good conflict, but I don’t think the whole Dark Teen Poetry Influenced By Linkin Park Lyrics Set To The Style Of Prose is very mature. If that’s what qualifies as a good novel, I could’ve made masterpieces when I was 12 years old. I guess I just was expecting stuff more sophisticated than what I saw. Some of it seemed fairly interesting: the one where the kid shoots his father, the one where the narrator sez he’s gay (or something, I read that thing a while ago, not to mention the fact that I think it was poetry anyways).

Most “teen” books I find to be instantly forgettable. Too trivial the topics, too thin the stories, too boring the prose.

The YA section at Barnes&Noble is honestly getting to be atrocious. :[ But if you dig, you really can find some amazing young adult fiction.

On a different note…I’m dying here. Seriously, Push/Scholastic, what’s going on? I have finals all next week—how can you possibly expect me to study?

Okay. Which one of ya’ll said that today was judgment day? lol
I’m slowly going crazy over here!

I know, I skip over to the adult section now… which is also disappointing… haha.

What do you guys think could be going on? If they decide the first place winner so early, then wouldn’t they pretty much have the list together? It shouldn’t be hard to put it up, it’s a list of 37 names, not a novel (hah), jeez.

Agreed! The suspense is killing me. I’ve waited this long… >:

Anyone know if the winners were posted somewhere else as well as PUSH last year?

I was afraid this would happen…no big announcement. The winner may have been chosen, and notified but it would have been nice if scholastic/push followed thru and posted the gold, silver awards and honorables…

I guess we’ll just have to keep checking the mailbox, maybe something will come by snailmail before a website post. I’m gonna try not to lose any more sleep over this…

I am sure that whatever was picked as winner is a stream of consciousness about some painful experience…maybe next year I can write a novel about this painful experience…conflict, anguish, yep a sad heroine who perseveres and finds strength deep within her soul…all here. Winner for sure…:o)

wannabe: Have you checked out the winners from three or four years ago who have been published? Cause neither of those books are like that. Also, last year’s winner won with a fantasy novel. If you don’t want to published on such a “twisted existence” oriented publishing house then maybe you should find another contest to enter.

schoolwannabe, please please stop saying they’ve already notified the winners, etc.
We have no idea whether they’ve done so or not. And it’s not something good to think about. They haven’t posted the winners. Ergo there are no winners yet. Simple as that. Nothing more substantial beyond those facts.

don’t need another contest, just one that’s open-minded. Let’s see what the winner’s novel is about…then decide what subject matter they like…

In terms of whether or not they notified the winners, I’m just expressing disappointment like everyone else that they said they would post something on the 15th and that date has now come and gone. geesh…

I think that PUSH, or at least the contest, is open to any type of novel winning, regardless if it is sci-fi or angsty teen. If it is well excuted, then it shouldn’t matter. That said, it may matter whether or not PUSH goes ahead with the publication of it, seeing as it is only a “Possiblity” for publication.

So, we all must just wait and see what happens next, whenever scholastic/PUSH decides to get off their bums and post the winners. Who knows? Maybe they just couldn’t decide from all of our great manuscripts…just keep the hope going!

I’ve come to terms with the fact that none of us is ever going to hear everything, ever.

There will be no winner.

Ah, come now. There’ll be a winner. And they have to announce it before June, cause that’s when the awards ceremony is.

I emailed Scholastic about a list of winners, so hopefully I’ll hear back soon.

Oh, good, I was hoping someone would email. Let us know!

Yea, I know, schoolwannabe, but you just get me so down sometimes that I think I’m looking up, heh.

I think some of us among us will take silver and honorable mentions. Can’t wait to hear when people here start shouting, shout out loudly!!..also next year’s winner is certainly among this group, no doubt.

scholwannabe:

Why not gold? Don’t give up! Silver is an honor, of course, (I would be so happy to get silver or even honorable mention) but never forget the gold! Not yet, atleast…not yet.

Sooo. . . Flintlock, have you heard back from them yet?

All this waiting is making me hungry. Cheez-Its, anyone?
