Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2009

I can’t live like this. I really can’t.

At least we have munchies.

Hey, but we all have to promise to post as SOON as you get the email, okay? I mean, one of has to make Certificate at the very least.

hey, just thought I’d chime in to help people who are waiting. I got a call at 5:00, maybe earlier, to say I was a silver medal in the novel category. good luck to everyone else who is waiting to hear! I am beyond shocked, hadn’t heard anything and simply assumed that I hadn’t won a thing. No email yet, but I think the person from scholastic said one was on the way. if only I could go to Carnegie Hall for the presentation! (it’s on my graduation)

^ :(

Great, so they’ve notified the winners already. Oh, well. There’s next year.

Oh no!

Well congratulations.

Argh…oh well, I’ll just keep writing.

Congrats!

congratulations
i’ll try not to be infinitely depressed.
there’s always next year.

thank you for the notification. this is upsetting tho

Oh my god.

I got a call around 5ish, too - but the connection was bad so I couldn’t hear a thing. I just hung up after saying “hello” for the 3rd time.

When you get that email, PROMISE to post. :D

^ Do you know it was Scholastic/Push?

I got a silver, too. Second year in a row. I’m a senior. I know it’s a fantastic honor, but…dang. It’s like “Hey, you’re good…but not good enough.” Rough.

To the silver winners - I’m curious. What were your novels about? (:

Both my silver winners are realistic fiction coming-of-age novels. This year I wrote about best friends who are forced to grow up when they make a pact to discover the secrets of their twisted pasts. It involves a trail of possible suicide notes hidden in paintings leading to an almost-ghost-town in Idaho, a power acronym (TUFS!) which stands for everything, an orange-roll stealing raccoon named Rodney, ghost stories that are possibly true, a Toyota Tercell that breaks down in inconvenient places, random estranged relatives who are mathematicians (ew)…and, eventually, a happy ending. It’s kind of weird. But it’s my baby. I’ve been working on it for three years. Now, I’m not sure how to feel, because I don’t win anything but Scholastic owns it for two years.

^ Wow.

Congrats to all winners. I’m kind of sad, not going to lie, but I’ll be fine. (: And I dunno, I just wrote a ton in the past hour or so, so it’s nice how this whole thing has gotten me to stop avoiding writing and actually do it (I’m sure some of you know what I mean ;)).

We can all make it, you know? Doesn’t matter if we win this contest or not. (Though, that would have been awesome. :] )

I’m not going to lie… I’m really depressed about this.

There’s more than one silver winner?
I’m curious - what did the e-mail say?

From the sound of it, people have been getting phone calls, instead of emails. Strange.

Our house got a series of calls at 4:45, but we didn’t pick up as we were all too busy, maybe it was them? scholwannabe wants to become scholqueenbee. :o)

That sounds pretty interesting! I do wonder if any sci-fi novels have ever won, though. /:

Man, I am so disappointed. I wonder if they didn’t do all the calls yesterday?
