@sweetcupcake12 I am! I’m actually finishing up some more pieces tonight. That’s why I’m on CC so late haha.

Wow cutting it close, with the deadline tomorrow lol.

@sweetcupcake12 You know it.

My daughter is in the northeast region. Sent the forms but still has to fix two stories by tomorrow night. So hard to get it all done with regular homework!

Guys I’m so confused I totally thought the deadline was tonight… I guess it’s technically due one second before the 18th L O L oops

JUST turned in my forms from my school in 3rd period today! Its going to be post marked on time!

Last day stressin
@topaz1116 I totally feel you on this, I wrote one of my poems about my struggle with self harm. I was/am really proud of how it turned out but now I’m really nervous that my parents might read it and freak out

@topaz1116 @sillyface Same here! I wrote a poem collection and some of things (although pretty vague) are pretty personal.

Sigh. Now it’s just a waiting game I am very impatient.

Oh yay! People on this thread! Anyone in the Philadelphia Writing Region? My cyber school is based out of that region, so I’m in that one even though I live pretty far Finishing up my submissions now; in a half an hour I’ll be done!

I’m ending up submitting a script (my first ever), a personal essay, a short story, and five poetry collections. I know what you guys mean about the “talking about personal things” issue…Some of my poems talk about very personal things but thankfully, my writing style is rather abstract, so I could be writing about anyone (plus the people I talk about in my poems don’t speak English, so the chances of them finding out I wrote about them are slim to none haha)

I was an American Voices Nominee as an eighth grader, and won a national silver medal as a ninth grader (dumb luck in my opinion), so hopefully I’ll do well this year. Anyone else finishing up last minutes submissions?

@evan241 Philly region too!

@OverInfinity Oh hey awesome! high five I’d rather be in the SouthCentral PA region (where I live) than the Philly region because I know the Philly region is quite competitive because of all of the nice schools, but go Philly region-ers! Have you submitted before?? We may have seen each other at an awards ceremony!

I’m in the West region… Which I’m assuming is competitive because of Bay Area schools (one of which I go to, but that’s besides the point).

I’m still editing my poetry, and today’s the deadline. I’ve been switching around poetry all the time.

I just replaced another poem. Now I think one of the poems I used to think was good is horrible; I want to replace it, but I have nothing else (unless I break up one of my collections, which I don’t want to do).

Time to write another poem (this is what I like about poetry–it doesn’t need nearly as much editing as stories do).

@evan241 Last year, I submitted oil paintings last minute and got a silver key in each U? Perhaps see you there?

(First year doing writing/poetry!)

This is my first year submitting at all… I meant to submit things in eighth and ninth grade, but never got around to it.

@topaz1116 I feel you with the last-minute editing thing! I was editing my stuff up to a couple of hours ago.

@OverInfinity Ahh, last year I didn’t submit (I was out of the country), but I submitted the two years beforehand! Hopefully, I’m crossing my fingers we’ll get something! :)

I don’t have much hope for my play, considering it’s the first play I’ve written in my life. I loved my short story and I hope the judges will appreciate its abstract nature and not be totally confused…It was semi-autobiographical, I kind of inserted half of my personality into each character, and in my opinion it’s cool, but maybe hard for a reader to appreciate. The jury’s out on my personal essay, and for the poetry I have no idea because it depends so much on what the reader like!

I just hope the same reader doesn’t read all of my stuff because there are some similarities between some of my works (I talk about the same city in my personal essay and a poem) and I think almost every poetry collection has at least one poem that includes a Spanish word or title. worries and over thinks everything while she should be writing an essay for school

If anyone, especially another writer, wants to share a little bit of work with each other, that would be really awesome! One of my favorite things about these competitions is getting to know other artists and reading/seeing diverse work.

@evan241 thats a good idea! I’d love to see what you guys have come up with. My persuasive paper is pretty controversial, but I actually like the bold tone I took with it.

Did u guys have teachers read over your submissions? One of the reasons I didn’t submit anything personal was because I would feel really unconfortable with my teacher reading it.

Also, did any of you guys browse the past winning works?

@sweetcupcake12 Ooh, controversial! I’d love to see it, send it over through PM if you want :)

I didn’t have teachers read over my work. Probably should have, but the teacher who signs my Scholastic forms has been really busy lately, and I don’t really know my English teachers well.

I browsed past winning work! Some of the stuff I’m very impressed by, some of it doesn’t seem that great to me. That’s just the subjective nature of art/writing!

@evan241 I’ll share my pieces in a bit; I decided to let the okay poem stay, since my other poem fits well in the collection it’s in.

I hope the same judges don’t read my pieces as well; namely my poetry, because there are a few common traits in one or two of the pieces (spacing out of words, as s u c h). It’s more prominent in some pieces than others, but still.

I tried to get my teacher to read over my story, but she never got around to it. However, I wrote it in January and have edited it extensively several times; I’ve also gotten friends to read over it.

The past winning works are amazing, especially the poetry (if you search for 2014 and grade 10 in poetry, there’s this one collection that’s amazing; it’s the one in the top left); however, there are a few Silver Medal works that I didn’t really think were amazing.
