Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2018-2019

OMG I just got my results! 8 gold keys & 2 american voices nominations!! Please excuse me while I scream

@futuredoctoryang WOAH congrats! That’s amazing!

I’m having misgivings about my writing… results come out in eight days and I’m crossing my fingers for an honorable mention or silver key

@futuredoctoryang ok WHAT

WOW

That’s jaw dropping results! Congrats!!

also @wistfulwords I feel you, I feel that way sometimes too, but that’s probably just your inner pessimist talking. Tomorrow you might high up on your chances, and then low again the day after. Only productive thing is to put it out of your mind and wait for the results to come… I’m trying to get off CC in order to do just that, but it’s proving difficult haha

@Kingtape @wistfulwords Thank you! this is a huge glow up from my one gold key last year so I’m in true disbelief. I wish you guys all the best on your notification date!!

@futuredoctoryang Wow, that’s actually insane. Congratulations!!

@futuredoctoryang Also, I love your username

@futuredoctoryang that’s AMAZING!!! Congrats!

Congratulations @futuredoctoryang and everyone else who has heard back! I have no idea when our results will be posted. I’m guessing by our region’s continuing radio silence that it will be the same day the Gold Key list is posted. My son posted a few new writing pieces including a poem, short story and a sci-fi story, as well as a Senior portfolio. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

@homerdog My son entered artwork that I thought was pretty good back at the 2016 awards and he got absolutely nothing for either of his pieces. So I know from experience that is definitely not true. He submitted two more pieces this year as his last year as a senior, and I would be over the moon if he got anything for either one!

@Samsmom2019 thanks. :). We just got an email from S19’s art teacher and it said that 3000 art pieces were entered and 830 will be shown at the regional event. So I guess he made it into the top 30 percent or so. He said that Scholastic judges not just for talent but for meaning behind the pieces. I think he got lucky to even get honorable mention then because he’s not an “artist” in that sense. He just got lucky and got the Art genes in our family and likes to paint and draw. He’s taken lessons since he was ten so he’s had quite a bit of instruction, but writing artists’ statements are always a struggle for him!

@futuredoctoryang How many pieces did you enter and in which categories?

@homerdog How exciting that his work will be on display at the Regional event! Congratulations to him again!

@Samsmom2019 @beautifulchaos @musicer16 Thank you!!

@Lunarlitgend 7 Individual poetry pieces and 1 portfolio!

@futuredoctoryang Wow!! You poets are on FIRE this year :smiley:

@futuredoctoryang omg thats amazing, good job!!
Hey guys, how many of you guys are applying for the SAS scholarship thing? Do you know if its randomized, or based on talent. (how they select you) I really want to go this year.

I haven’t checked this thread for a few days, but everyone seems to be getting great results
CONGRATS!

I’m just here being a sad potato and waiting for my Feb. 1 results XD

one more week until all results come out, for those of us still waiting!
