Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2018-2019

Is anyone else here going to be a senior during the 2018-2019 school year? I’ve done the competition for two years now, but I want to aim higher and so I’m planning on entering again this year. I understand that the results of the competition won’t be out until February, which is well after the early and regular deadlines for most colleges, but I was wondering if you could still submit any awards you may have gotten from that year to colleges. Or, if any past seniors have gone through this experience before, could you please reach out to me?

i want to try writing some new categories but my brain is still fried from standardized testing

Hey guys! THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ESPECIALLY FOR POETS!

Hey guys, I just found an interesting blog article that gives a brief summary of this competition and its submission process here. It had a lot of information just on one page, which was neat! Check it out here: https://awritingvoyage.blogspot.com/2018/08/scholastic-art-and-writing-awards.html

Oh wow, thank you so much!!! :smiley:

No problem! :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Open today Everyone!!! :smiley:
Get ready for a new year and a fresh opportunity for regionals and hopefully Nationals!!! :smiley:

I found just two weeks ago by my teacher :slight_smile: Though, I’m a rookie on this. I never actually enter a contest and I really do hope I finish my novel before the deadline. Reading some of your guys comments about entering different writing/art things at once makes me jealous. I wish I could be skilled as you guys xD I wish all of you luck!

@Meeeeeeeee
First off, I love your Username xD
Secondly, dude don’t sweat it really. I’m actually a rookie at this too. It was just last year that I entered my first contest and when taken into account that’s like barely any experience. In fact when I submitted, I was so unprepared. I didn’t do any research, I didn’t know how the contest worked, the awards, the guidelines, the kind of stories they look for and I didn’t even know how prestigious it was either. It shocked me that I even managed to get anything, god forbid, a Gold Key. It sounds like beginners luck if you asked me! After that I did a lot of research, especially when I didn’t make it to Nationals as expected. And I recommend you do the same so you don’t end up like me! Know what you’re doing and what you’re getting yourself into, research the contest, read different pieces that won, pieces that suit your style and get inspired by them and don’t be afraid to ask for advice!

I’m sure you’re a very talent writer and skilled in a way that is unique to you and that none of us can copy. You can learn from this experience even if it isn’t an automatic win! It’ll make you more ambitious and so on! And if you’re a 9th grader, 10th grader or younger you still have so much time on your side! Even if you’re a senior there’s still time to submit other works, especially YoungArts since you can submit when you’re 18!
Scholastic starts today after all so that means you can join us on this journey! All are welcome here, including you! It’s a scary journey though and a rough one, but it’s fun and it’s thrilling all the same!! :smiley:

If anyone has won a special award, how long was your statement? I’m not sure whether I should write fifty words or one hundred fifty.

@Lunarlitgend
Thank you so much :slight_smile:
I’m still working on my novel which is 20 pages and 2 chapters xD I have a long way to go! After looking through many works that won silver medals last night in the novel category, I’m actually hyped because maybe I’ll be on that one day and it just makes me feel inspired to work on that goal. Whether I don’t or not, it’d be a fun experience and I’d be improving my writing skills. I have two more years before I graduate, I’ll work on that dream!

P.S. The novel that I’m writing involves Maleficent coming back from the dead, along with other villains that were banished. The main character, as well as four other people, work together to defeat them and figure out the answers to how she appeared again. :slight_smile:

@Meeeeeeeee
Two years is great dude!!! That’s so much time to better your writing and improve. And your story sounds unique and amazing!!! I’m sure you have a great shot at the competition this year :smiley:
I also hope you publish it one day too, I’d be willing to buy it xD

I’m so happy that Scholastics is finally open again! Yeah!! I’m getting so many flash backs from last year…

So what is everyone entering? Which categories and how many pieces? :slight_smile:

hey I’m new on here:) I haven’t made anything yet, but I am thinking of entering a few drawings:)

Hi @qeertktkrndbfntn !!! Welcome! That sounds great! I remember there was one point when I wanted to submit a drawing but I thought otherwise XD

Aww you should’ve, what are you submitting this year? Have you submitted something before?
