Thanks so much everyone for the information. I would call/bother scholastic myself, but it seems like you guys have already done the job. Two more weeks then...

And congrats vegangirl! That's amazing.

Thanks so much everyone for the information. I would call/bother scholastic myself, but it seems like you guys have already done the job. Two more weeks then...

And congrats vegangirl! That's amazing.

this is SO ridiculous.

i know i am not going to win...but i check this thread every day and i'm in constant anticipation.

congrats vegangirl

jw who did you pester and email? because im thinking about pestering and emailing them too...

i got a national silver award in photography portfolio! yay-ness!

i'm impressed by the persistence of this group. my daughter is waiting - RAL in painting. i would love to know who to pester via email or phone (and their number).

Congrats morangotango! Finally, someone has heard...now for some questions...

How did you find out? regular mail?
Did you apply RAL?
And most importantly, i am also a photographer...i'd love to see your online portfolio.

...and if you don't mind me asking...how much did you recieve?

Painter2--I know some people who have already recieved notification for RAL in drawing OR painting [I'm not 100% sure], but if you call I'm sure they would be able to tell you if they've notified everyone.

I hate how scholastic always pushes back notification dates!

This is absurd. I wonder why there's no online notification? That seems like such a 'duh' to me, especially with their fancy system of online sign-up they cooked up this year.

But there is still hope, yes?

well what i've noticed that i haven't seen anyone win gold for art or photography in here. So maybe they are saving the gold winners for later? Glimmer of hope maybe?

-------nvm------

epitaph- are you talking about RAL or regional competitions or nationals?

Because there is only one winner for gold photography for nationals.

I won a gold photography portfolio regionally and was therefore put into nationals.

WoW the Scholastics system is really confusing if people still haven't found out about regional competitions when some other people are waiting for national notification. I know where i live...our whole state found out about two months ago about regionals.

There are two gold winners for nationals in photography portfolios

From the website:

Portfolio Gold Awards—Twelve cash grants of $10,000 presented in the names of leadership sponsors of the Alliance to graduating seniors—five artists, two photographers and five writers—for exemplary portfolios.

oops--that's what i meant.

and yes, they do show some of the past winner's work online.

HousePetMarla

I'm talking about national competition.
I have a gold key portfolio was well, hence it also went to nationals.
Ant there are two gold portfolios for photography, and so far, i haven't heard of someone who has won gold for it, even if, theres still one more spot in there.

Wow...congrats to both vegangirl and marangotango!!! That's so amazing for both of you!

I'm still waiting...I really should just call or email or something...

Hmm...

But there is still hope, which is good!!!

thanks, everyone!
and also, i don't know if i mentioned this before, but the guy who emailed me said I'd receive confirmation of my awards in the mail "in a couple of weeks." how's that for unnecessarily vague? :)

marangotango, did you call someone or did they contact you? was it via mail or email?

Can either of you tell us who you emailed or called to pester?

people usually find out via e-mail, teacher, or mail.
You should e-mail and be a pest as much as you can, but The person that you e-mail and usually answers back is ATapnio@scholastic.com. He told the other girl that she had won and what-not, but he told me that national winners are not yet announced and they will be notified in 2 to 3 weeks.
I guess the only thing left is patience.

I am so confused!!! If one submitted in the writing category for RAL, would you have heard by now if you won on a regional level, or do RAL writing entries go right to the national level? From reading the preceding posts, it seems like some RAL entries already received awards and are waiting to hear about national level awards. In other words, if we haven't heard anything at all yet, does that mean we haven't won anything and don't have a chance at winning something?

I just called out found out that I have won a silver key award on the national level for my general writing portfolio. I'm kinda disappointed that I won't be going to Carnegie Hall, but this is still a great honor!
