I live in WA and had to enter the RAL category even though it doesn't say "Region-At-Large" under my state. I think it's regional.

Has Anyone from California heard anything?????

my region isnt listed as region-at-large yet i know it is cuz when i registered it told me that writing for my region IS RAL. so, ya, that's not totally accurate.

^Same, when I registered it was WRAL, but on this site it has some specific stuff listed.

My state only has an art affiliate.... so I'm not sure what would happen there. Art results came back ages ago, though....

I think that puts you in Region at Large.

All I know is a couple of months ago I submitted my portfolio through my school and about two weeks later i got the news that i gota a gold portfolio...i then went to the awards ceremony and that was it. I know I'm supposed to have won a bid to nationals I however have no idea what this Region-At-Large thing is and when we hear back about nationals.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

region-at-large is for people who don't have competitions for art and/or writing in their area and instead submit it to the region-at-large. region-at-large is considered a competition at the regional level and kids who win gold in that level move on to the nationals.

Wait, so how were we supposed to know whether we are a region at large? Cause I just downloaded the entry form and sent it to the Broadway, New York address. Did I send it to the wrong place?

word on the street is that they've finished picking national winners and those people will receive word soon.

"Cause I just downloaded the entry form and sent it to the Broadway, New York address."

Me, too. And if they've already picked national winners, I'm certainly out of the running! =(

I'm out in Cali...writing portfolio RAL...still haven't heard anything...

Thanks Swifty - I think you've got it - RAL is still at large.

D1 won 2 gold keys for films last month in region. No news about D2 entry for short story at region or otherwise.

All we know is that the films went to NY for national judging.

Apparently for RAL there are no regional winners--that's why it is taking so long. All RAL entries go straight to nationals, and so if you get a gold key, you've won a national award. Or that's what my teacher told me...

So no one's out of the running yet. :)

It's really terrible. I told myself that I would just enter "and see what happens" ... but now I've become obsessed. Ew. What's wrong with me?!?

Emyla, so all the RAL just got sent to national level? When do they pick national winners?

Hmmm...I'm thinking about doing this competition next year. Can anyone tell me how hard/easy it is to get a Gold Award at the national level?

They have samples of award-winning work on their site. Click around.

evilspork--my friend entered RAL (for art) and did not hear back until recently that she had won a gold key at the national level. Since RAL covers so many states I guess they only notify you if you won on a national level, and there is no regional level to pass through. I would assume that it is the same for writing...and they said the results for that should come soon...
