<p>Does this competition look good on HYPS apps? Is it prestigious at all? How hard is it to get the gold award (not in portfolio?) Any tips from those who have been successful?</p>

<p>i've heard mixed reactions for art at least -- i know from experience reading some of the writing on that website that the winners, especially in poetry, really aren't all that good--</p>
<p>as far as art goes, EVERYONE enters, so the top 5 portfolios they pick and stuff, and the gold awards etc -- they could pick winners of that caliber many times out of the pool of entries. I heard somewhere that they really could care less, then again, i'm applying to MICA and if you're a gold winner they offer special scholarhsips to you, so obviously they respect it. if i were you i wouldn't waste your time and energy eneterting scholastics, go ahead and do it, but enter a lot of other stuff, i don't think it pulls much weight</p>
<p>it's quite competative, and actually incredibly prestigious since if you win nationally, you get recognized at Carnegie Hall!</p>
