I often wished our son stuck with a fall sport, allowing him time to "heal" if something untoward happened....unfortunatly for us, his sport was in the spring..... lucky, he survived his season unscathed! whew!!!!

hmmm... maybe playing spring baseball isn't such a good idea this year?

Along that same line of thinking, what would happen if a mid were to be injured in a sport at the Academy?

If they are injured in a sport at the academy, they would be treated and retained.....depending on how much class time/physical time was missed, they might have to make up class work during their summer vacation block.

This is entirely different from getting injured PRIOR to I-Day, and reporting to the academy with an injury that will impact/prevent the candidate from participating in/ completing plebe summer requirements, which is 80% physical. If such an injury occurred, chances are you would be sent home. There is no such thing as joining the class mid-way through plebe summer, or in the fall- whether or not your admission would be deferred to the following year I don't know, but it would not surprise me at all if you had to reapply again for the following year's class, including obtaining a nomination.

So yes, bubble wrap is a good idea if your kid will hold still long enough- mine wouldn't. What I would say is forgo skiing this year, don't start up a new sport where you are likely to get injured, keep your fingers crossed and say your prayers. I know we breathed a sigh of relief when the thorpedo finished his final season- victorious AND unscathed!

What happens when someone gets an injury during plebe summer?

Hmmm, I read 30% for medical waivers allowed in each class. We need a BGO to weigh in perhaps.

The Naval Academy has several plots reserved at Arlington National Cemetery for this type of situation. :D

Injured plebes are treated by the Medical Clinic (or the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda depending upon the severity of the injury) and provided with a medical chit restricting their activities while they recuperate.

shame on you GA....scaring these poor candidates away!!!!

actually, you will get medical care, cast, crutches, wheelchair, a chit out of certain physical activities and marches, and anything else you might need.

Oh....and if you miss too much of your plebe summer, you will get to spend your vacation the following summer back on the yard making up for time lost!
