School Choice Advice

Ok so I'm a junior, but I was interested to see what others thought of my college picks. Obviously I really want to go to upenn, which is why i'm posting in this forum, but my parents are really pushing me to go to harvard/mit, so i've thought of two different application strategies. I was wondering what people thought of them. oh and i'm planning to go for finance/econ, so i would be applying to wharton, so if people could comment on the quality of those programs that would be really helpful.

Also keep in mind that I didn't put safeties on here, I'll add those once i've figured out my "target" colleges

PLAN A

Early:

UPenn - ED
Michigan - ER
MIT - EA

Regular if Defer/Deny:

Harvard
Princeton
Yale
NYU
Brown?
Virginia

PLAN B

Early:

Michigan - ER
MIT - EA

Regular:

Harvard
UPenn
Princeton
Yale
NYU
Brown?
Virginia

do you have any safeties? that is a brave batch of schools to apply to

well:

 1. i’m going to figure out my safeties later (I still have 10 or so months)
 2. our school seems to have higher than average acceptance rates for all these schools

screw the safeties; waste of time and money. If you are of the caliber to apply to these schools, statistics strongly suggest you’ll get into at least one. Besides, if you even fail to get into Michigan / UVA, you really have no business applying to Harvard / Wharton.

Unless you are a legacy, ED won’t help you get into Wharton (contrary to what everyone will tell you). You want to build a portfolio in a sense. Put the most weight into Michigan and UVA. The rest are higher risk / higher return positions.

For Business/Econ, here is my suggested lineup:
Wharton, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, NYU, UChicago

= very strong economics programs and prestigious so will help you land high paying jobs.

I would say Wharton is the way to go. You could also consider Stanford SCEA.
