School doesn't offer many APs, will it hurt me?

The more I look at College Confidiential, the more I become discouraged because I see people taking 12 AP courses. I go to a school that does not offer many (Chem, Bio, Physics, Stat, Calc, English Langugage, Euro, and USH), however my problem is complicated because 4 of them require you to be a senior (including all the sciences except physics). I am applying to upper-tier schools and would like to know if the lack of APs will hurt me. I will probably be taking 5 of the 8 (I am not a science or math person, so only one science and no stat).

I don't think so...don't worry about it. My school is low on AP classes too.

My D's school has 3 or 4 AP's. all but one for seniors, and 2 of those I believe are taken together (physics and Calculus?). We'll see how it turns out but I think it hurt her on the SAT II's.

My school has very few AP courses too, maybe one or two more than your school does, and we always get kids into great schools so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

As long as you take the hardest courseload that you CAN given your circumstances (the # of APs offered) then no, it shouldn't hurt you.

You should be held accountable for what is offered at your school. My school offers around 14 AP classes so I've taken 9. Other schools in area offer 3 or 4 at most. As la montagne said, just take the hardest course load your school offers and you should be fine.

you ARE only held accountable for what's at your school.
