Well, I was not officially expelled, that’s what the school said. I left it. Even if I report that I attended that school, they are not going to report anything on me about that.
If you don’t think sexual harassment or “talking badly to girls,” as you put it, is not doing anything bad, you won’t thrive here. Learn why you were expelled and change your ways. If you don’t think you deserved to be expelled, then you don’t get it and shouldn’t apply to a US university.
If you have learned your lesson and truly get why you were wrong, then you should come clean on your application and send in both transcripts. Admissions committees aren’t stupid. They’ll wonder why you had to repeat the same semester in Russia when your grades weren’t failing grades. You can explain what happened and how you have changed your ways.
Agree fully with @Massmomm. The US culture, thankfully, treats women with much more respect than a lot of other cultures. If you don’t understand that what you did was wrong, things won’t go well for you here and your resume will look worse than ever. You need to seriously think whether you fit into the culture. FYI, college culture is a lot more pro-women than the rest of the US culture. Also, in the US college culture, covering things up or lying is a serious offense which justifies expulsion in and of itself.
They’ll wonder why you had to repeat the same semester in Russia when your grades weren’t failing grades.
Oh my God. In Russia, US transcripts are not accepted, so it makes sense why I had to repeat the same semester.
You have a hard road ahead of you, I’m afraid.
The question wasn’t have you ever been expelled. The question was have you been found responsible for a disciplinary violation that resulted in a disciplinary action. Applications may word this question differently but be careful to answer it honestly. Just because they didn’t expel you doesn’t mean that you didn’t do anything wrong and being asked to withdraw from school is a disciplinary action.
If your parents can afford to pay for a 2nd bachelor’s degree, then apply wherever you want. But you should note that more than one person has had their degree rescinded after graduation because their college discovered they lied on their application.
What is the point of “find out”? Do they scrutinize every day my college application while I study for 4 years in order to find something? It just makes no sense…
“Bad talking with girls or something like that”? What is something like that? “Because the grades are bad”? Do everyone a favor and stay in your home country. What we don’t need here is anyone, of any nationality, “bad talking” with our girls to such an extent that it leads to expulsion. Geez, you must take the people on CC as stupid. Save your excuse that you didn’t know it was wrong, I’m not buying it.
People learn from mistakes. I understand that it was wrong.
The reason people are upset is because your language on this thread made it seem like you were not taking your offense seriously - even saying what happened is “not important”. If you understand that what you did was seriously wrong and have learned from that, then that is a good first step.
@dvacher1321 - I really hope your post is a prank, because it it isn’t, it displays a breathtaking level of cynicism that will probably be evident in other aspects of your college applications, leading perceptive college admissions officers to toss them into the trash bin, where they clearly belong.
I’m the mom of girls, and the teacher of girls.
If what you did was bad enough to get you expelled, or almost expelled, or whatever you want to call it, then I’m kind of hoping you don’t get accepted into a US school.
Throw on top of it your desire to hide what you’ve done, and my inner mama bear kicks into over drive.
You are taking a major chance if you choose to apply to colleges here and hope that your boarding school record can be concealed. You might well succeed, and the omission will not be caught. Just know that there might be serious repercussions, such as rescinded admissions or outright rejections, if you are caught. As a Russian applicant, you might well receive extra scrutiny these days, and an irregularity in your transcript could set off alarms. Private schools frequently offer students the option of withdrawing before they are formally expelled. Most colleges will recognize that a “Withdrawal” in the middle of a semester was probably due to serious disciplinary circumstances, but it is still widely believed to “look better” than a formal expulsion on a record. You can always try to claim that there was a family crisis at home, or something like that, which compelled you to depart suddenly.
Prep schools do not typically disclose the gory details of disciplinary actions to college admissions officers, if they are contacted, but they will make an official statement if asked about anything on your record.
I don’t know what school you attended. Some are more lenient than others, but you would not face expulsion at most that I know about for simply saying a “bad thing about a girl” if it were a first offense. It is likelier that you either had some major violations previously, or that your offense was . . . well . . . more offensive than you explained.
At any rate, you can follow your own instincts, and ignore the advice you have received from this site.
Yelling at me just because I have done something is okay. But yelling at me after I realize that I was wrong is not a hing I am going to tolerate. Is that clear? Yes, they expelled me for the first infraction, that’s it. I was suspended at first, then expelled. I just want to forget everything what happened because it was my mentality that caused all the problems. In Russia, you wouldn’t be kicked out of the school for doing similar things. In fact, it is almost impossible to be kicked out of the school unless you do some real damage or bullying, I guess. I didn’t know everything was so strict in the US and it is kinda weird. Some people have done much worse things, but they didn’t get caught. Again, maybe someone wanted me to get kicked out of the school and reported me. We can’t know for sure.
If I didn’t officially finished the semester, why would I report it? Just like I have never studied there. And that will be awesome when admissions see my transcript and notice 2nd semester of 10th grade at two schools. Some guy above told me that it would look suspicious. No, it does not: since the educational systems are completely different, they will not accept your American transcripts, so obviously I HAD TO complete 2nd semester at my Russia school in order to be eligible for the last grade in my school. It makes sense.
You can say whatever you want, but ruining life for a child is a bad thing to do. You can follow this way instead of cheering up and that stuff, but that’s up to you.
I have heard stories about one guy at my school. There was something related to gay pornography. Maybe he showed something to someone or something like, and he got reported, I believe. And he got expelled. I am not trying to say that it is good or something, but expelling someone for doing that thing? You gotta be kidding me. It just makes no sense. From my perspective, the staff should talk to him, explain what he did wrong, and etc. It was his first infraction, so I am completely shocked.
And again, let’s look at the following situation. Many people (over 70% students, I am pretty sure) officially deserve suspension/expulsion. Swearing is forbidden, but almost everyone in high school swears. That’s just how things are. But the thing is that THEY ARE NOT CAUGHT. Not caught = you’re okay, keep up. And I am pretty much sure that even if they are caught, they will keep up swearing, whereas I would become discreet and very careful with my language. I can learn from my mistakes.
It’s not up to the United States to change it’s school culture to make sense to you. You’d probably be happier staying in Russia.
Did I say anything about changing? I just stated the facts.
The Standard Operating Procedure for “not tolerating” something on a forum is to stop reading the thread.
“Ruining the life for a child is a bad thing to do”
Is this referring to the offense you perpetrated against a female, which resulted in you being told to leave the school?
