Sorry if these are silly questions, but I'm a little bit confused about my high school's involvement with UMich and the Common App. My Economics teacher already submitted a letter of recommendation, and I am debating which other teacher I should ask, but I'm not sure how many letters UMich requires or by whom they should be written. Can anybody clarify these details?

Additionally, Office of Undergraduate Admissions: Forms states that a Teacher Evaluation is required. Is this the same thing as a letter of recommendation, or do I have to ask my teachers to fill out that form as well?

One more question. My school's guidance office has a policy of exclusively using snail mail to send counselor recs, the secondary school report, transcripts, and so on. If some of my application materials are submitted digitally via the Common App website (commonapp.org) and some are sent via the USPS, will there be any problems?

Your teachers should be filling out the Teacher Evaluation form and if they wish to write a letter attaching it to that. (That ratings grid makes it VERY easy for them to review a “recommendation”.) No other evaluations/recommendations from teachers are required. You should ask whatever teachers think highest of you and have the best knowledge of your potential to success at UMich. If you have significant non-classroom activities, you may wish to get a letter from them as someone who can attest to your personal non-academic qualities as well.

There shouldn’t be a problem linking your material between the different formats. It all gets scanned in anyways, as UM uses “paperless” admissions.

JJJust, my teachers typed the LORs out on a piece of paper with our school letterhead and that is what the GC is sending off. Should they be using the online version or something? My GC said that is the way she did it last year but I think that if my teachers filled out the rating chart it would help me out a lot.

What should I do?

They can send in the Teacher Evaluation form as well in hard copy if they wish.

So, I can print off the Teacher Evaluation Form and give it to my teachers to fill our the rating charts, then put that in an envelope with the letter they made and send that off as a package to U of M? (can they leave the space for the actual rec on the Teacher Evaluation Form blank because they already typed up a rec?)

Yes, you can have them fill out form and attach the letter they wrote separately and leave space at bottom blank.
