School information date conflicts with testing dates

My counselor needs to send out SAT Scores, recommendations, and transcript by Nov. 25th. After that, he will not do any sending until Jan 2nd. My chosen colleges have deadlines of January 1st . What should I do? Some of the chosen colleges require me to fill out their code when I am taking the SAT in January while others don’t mention it.

This is becoming a problem because I did not know that I need to take SAT II subjects until recently… I am planning of taking it in Dec. My college counselor might be able to hold the application for a week or two… but it is very unlikely that the scores will arrive on time. Most of my chosen colleges require SAT IIs… Anyone has encountered such problems before or has any advice or suggestion?

Please help. Thank you in advance.

P.S. I believe I can send out SAT scores to 4 colleges… but I have more than 4 that I would like to apply to :/

Your counselor doesn’t have to send out SAT scores at all, and in fact you have to send them through collegeboard anyway. If you go on their site, you can report your scores to any number of schools (4 is just the number you get free with the test). So just have your counselor mail transcripts without the scores; it won’t affect anything.

You can send score reports to more than 4 colleges, you just have to pay an additional fee.

Wait. So you’re counselor will only send up to Nov 25th? I mean most school’s deadline is January 1st. Why would he wait until January 2nd? By then it’s too late.

Most college won’t accept “school sent” SAT scores. Most colleges want to receive your “official” scores from Collegeboard.

So, list your 4 free schools when you register for the SAT (you can change your choices online if you’ve already registered), and pay to have your scores sent to more than 4 school choices.

BTW…

If that was my child’s school, I would want the administration to explain this badly timed deadline.

We have a winter break from Nov 25th till Jan 1st. So it is either before Nov 25th, or after Jan 1st

Unfortunately most schools that I am applying to ends on Jan 1 for admission. So yes, a very bad timing.

Thank you all for the help.

I guess I will have to narrow down my list a bit… Thanks again.

I’m not really getting this.

My D’s school ALSO has a cut off like yours. They HAVE to. It’s a huge school and everyone sends in their transcript requests at the last minute. I understand that. But there is no reason you can’t get everything turned in on time. But I don’t understand your timeline.

You will submit all your applications NOW, and request your recs and transcripts. The school will send them then in plenty of time. But your SAT scores need to come directly from College Board to the schools. Your school may ALSO include them on your transcript, but most schools do not accept that as “official” reporting of the score.

But then you lost me on your SAT scoring. You don’t have to narrow down your list. You can send as many as you want.

You have taken no SATs so far, is that right? You intend to take the SAT IIs in December? You can list 4 schools to receive the reports directly from College Board, included in the cost of your testing. Then you can send these scores to as many more colleges as you want, by going to College Board and paying for that. All in plenty of time for the January deadline.

BUT…then you said something about taking your SAT in January, and listing school codes to receive those reports. That IS too late to take the test for the schools with a January 1 deadline.

But…do you know there is a November testing too? Same thing here. You get 4 free score reports, then you pay for as many additional as you want sent. So you can take the SAT in November, and the SAT IIs in December, and send both scores to as many colleges as you want (but only the first per test date are “free”).

If you can be more clear on your timing I might be able to help more.
