School just started and my AP Chem teacher gave me...

My AP Chemistry teacher handed me "Study Guide Chemistry, 7th edition" by Zumdahl and "Fast Track to a 5: Preparing for the AP Chem Exam". On the Fast Track book it says "To accompany Chem 7th edition by Zumdahl", so supposbly the Fast track book was made to specifically supplement the Zumdahl book. I haven't really researched these 2 books and I was wondering if used together, would help me reach that 5 on the exam. So, are these 2 books adequate, or do I need to pick up PR from our library and look over that?

Zumdahl is supposedly one of the better AP Chemistry books out there in the market. So I would say its a good candidate in your quest for a five. Haven't heard too much about fast track to a 5 but I can vouch for the PR, which is a great book for AP chem prep. Hope this helps.

yea most people use Zumdahl, myself included
and they all seem to agree it's one of the better textbooks if not the best textbooks out there
I would definitely pick up another review book. I'm a PR/Barron's fan :]

I too am a PR fan lol. For some stupid reason, though, my school has scheduled AP Chem for only the first semester. That means I will have to review myself for the exam next semester and hopefully I won't have forgotten everything by then. I am definitly going to pick up PR when that time comes, though, and I will borrow the Zumdahl book from my teacher. Thanks for the help guys!

:O

I don't understand why everyone likes PR. It was my least favorite for Chemistry. I guess everyone has their preferences, eh? :)

Oh, man, Zumdahl totally sucked. I had it for my class and found it extremely pretentious and overly wordy.

PR ftw! (I got a 5 and I never read the textbook...)

yeah, i'll be using this book in the upcoming year. they gave us the workbook over the summer for summer hw, but they didn't give us the textbook due to the school rebinding the books. so... yeah. now we just have a bunch of problems to do and no resources to look them up in.

ugh...i have the online version of the hw and it's horrible...i think i'm going insane..

peachsnapple, if it's legal, could you share the online version? i really need a copy of the text.

I used FT to 5 for calc last year and it definitely helped. It was basically a cliffsnotes version of the textbook with 3 practice exams. It also had AP style MC questions after each chapter.

I can't speak for the FT line as a whole, but I'd recommend PR in addition.

Alright, so my teacher finally gave us the actual Zumdahl textbook today. I'll most likely go through the book and the study guide together to get a firm grasp on the subject then bring in PR to finish the job.
