I am in my schools journalism class which is not easy to get into and being in that class means that you write for the schools newspaper. Though the writing for the newspaper does not happen in class so would this be consider an extracurricular activity to put on my college applications?

bump bump bump

I put the school newspaper as an EC because I work on it A LOT outside of class.

yea ditto
depends on ur interest level too
like if u kinda wanna do journalism late in life?

Thanks, I want to be a Journalism major.

Yeah, put it in your ECs. Note if you held any positions on the editorial board, too. :)

Wait. Question: is this "the writing occurs out of class" the same as "well, for my other English class, I wrote my papers at home..." or is this...different? Because in all honesty, it doesn't sound all that different.

Writing for a student newspaper can be very much an extracurricular activity because if you get involved in any serious manner, it takes way more time than just doing homework for an ordinary course.

A reporter could spend hours running down sources in the newsroom, doing interviews out in the field or covering events on campus.

At my college, being on the newspaper requires enrollment in two separate classes for just this reason - a three-unit lecture for the staff meetings and a one-unit lab to give you credit for the hours you work outside of those meetings.
