Anyone with experience with the architecture program? How is NC State for OOS students? Does the campus feel traditional or are there a lot of commuter students? Thanks!

The College of Design is very selective. A portofolio must be submitted and there is an interview process. It's a very intense program from what I hear. My S ( not in college of design) has a very good friend in COD who came from Iowa for the program and has been very happy at NCSU.

NCSU is an urban campus in the middle of Raleigh,NC. Some parts of the campus are traditional looking. Some say there is too much red brick though. Nonetheless, the students who attend grow to love it.

There are between eight and nine thousand students living on campus. A large percentage of undergraduates move to nearby off campus apts. after a year or two in the dorms. That seems to be quite the norm with all S's friends at various universities.

Thanks for the reply PackMom. S just found out he was accepted to the COD. We visited campus this fall and S just didn't get the traditional campus feel he was looking for, but we know the Arch program is strong. I think we will try another campus visit. I was wondering what others thought in terms of the overall campus experience there.

p&h (nice name)...Many congrats to your S on being accepted to the COD. that speaks volumes for his talent and abilities.

My S is a jr. at NCSU and has loved it there. He could have gone to UNC (with the beautiful traditional campus) but chose NCSU instead and has said over and over how glad he is that he made that choice. NCSU has lots of school spirit and a student body filled with all kinds of kids. The Greek system is not a huge factor at State.

I hear the COD majors practically live in the COD buildings working on projects, etc. so the strength of the program may well outweigh the esthetics of the campus. S's COD friend from Iowa also got the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad (Prague) through the COD. He had an amazing time.
Hope you will visit again. Again, Congrats and good luck to your S. in making his choice.
