Since all the other programs are doing it, who has applied to the school of arts and sciences. just so we can see how many applied to this school. also, attach your gpa and sat scores as something to compare to. dont attach your extra curriculars cuz it takes too much space.
gpa:4.0/4.0 uw

wow this is making me more anxious hahah. @Ivystriver2, that’s just scary haha. but everyone is practically on the same boat! either someone has a lower GPA but a higher SAT, or similar stats.

just wondering, has anyone heard how hard it is to maintain a 3.6 GPA for the biology major?

I heard it’s not too too bad from someone from my high school who’s there now. The average GPA overall in CAS is supposedly around a 3.4.

oh that really isn’t that bad. you just have to be a little over average, which shouldn’t be too bad, hopefully hahah. cuz for the program I’m applying to, i need a minimum 3.6 gpa to stay in it. and my high school really isn’t that hard, so I’m able to really slack off and get an A. i know i can’t slack at penn as much, but still i don’t want it to be killer. too late for that anyway if i get accepted or rejected aha.

do you have to spend a lot of time studying for the classes? cuz penn is known as the “social ivy”, is there really time to be really social?

According to my friend, he doesn’t work that hard compared to our high school yet gets mostly A- and A’s. I have heard that it is “social” as in lots of partying, but that there isn’t a whole lot of free time for all that.

I’m personally not into that whole scene, so I’d rather be in a lab or something during my free time and haven’t looked to much into it.

^i know what you mean. Some classes at my school are killer (BC calc, APUSH, 11th grade honors English) and getting an A is quite an accomplishment. Some, on the other hand, are a waste of time and an A means nothing. I always appreciate a good challenge now and again… :)

Why would you rather be in a lab!?! You have the 2nd largest city in the country at your finger tips! Go explore and have fun.
all work and no play…

Not 2nd… Scratch that lol. Idk why I typed a 2

It’s only the 6th largest! And I’ve lived 15 minutes away from Center City my entire life, so it’s not that exciting for me. I’ll get out, sometimes, just I’m not one to go out and get drunk.

I’m opposed to drinking as well… But there are still plenty of things to do. And i’m from the suburbs, so the city would be a nice change of pace lol.

The Philadelphia Orchestra does have an amazing deal for college students. $25 per year, free tickets to most concerts. Not guaranteed great seats, but still. Not a bad deal for broke college students. That is something I would leave campus for very often.

are you the type that loves studying? what do you usually like to do for fun?

i feel like youre gonna be the one throwing off the curve hahah

I feel like every kid applying to Penn is the “curve ruiner.”
don’t worry too much. :)
