hi im in the school of arts and sciences right now but i am thinking of switching to biomedical engineering. Do i have to go to the school of engineering for that and is switching even possible

If you are current UR student, you should make an appointment with the Career Center as soon as you return to campus. They can lay out your options for you.

It is certainly possible that you can switch, but it will likely add one or more semesters to your graduation date.

P.S. Oddly, I just had this discussion with D2-- who is a rising junior (bio and math double major). She will talk with CC when she gets back to campus in Sept, but she will probably go to grad school for MS in BME/neural engineering instead of switching majors.

Kobe-- I just checked your posting history and see that you’re a incoming freshman. If that is the case, you should email the BME department and ask what you need to do to officially change colleges. (At UR you don’t declare an actual major until sometime during your sophomore year.) It shouldn’t be too difficult.

I looked up the required classes for freshman BME majors: (<a href=“Department of Biomedical Engineering : University of Rochester”>Error)

A typical freshman BME schedule for first semester would be: BME 101, CHEM 131, MTH 161, CAS 105 (freshman writing) or a cluster elective.

When you pre-registration materials arrive, pre-register for the appropriate BME classes. Then when you arrive on campus for orientation, ask to see a engineering advisor.
