Great thread OP. I was wondering about any SCA transfers applicants like myself. I realize that our chances are much slimmer, and that we get notified even later, so my stress levels are high. If there are any transfers on this thread, please post what your status page says. Mine:

All of my app materials were in by the Dec. 10 deadline, and I didn't apply for any scholarships. Anyone else in my boat?

My situation is just like coolrena8's friend's. Got the big packet from USC Admissions but says I must wait on a decision from SCA (for film production).

I've been in "in review" since 3/7 (before that prelim since 12/19). I submitted everything by 12/10 as well.

At this point I'd love to be accepted into USC in general. SCA would just be about 24 million cherries piled on top.

S told me yesterday that even if he's accepted at USC, he'll choose Chapman. This made me flip out.

The reason he's saying this now is that he has an offer of an Army ROTC scholarship from Chapman which he has to respond to by 3/19. I have an email in asking them to extend the deadline until USC's results are in, so we'll see about that. If so, maybe I can hold him off on accepting it.

I know that it's such a long shot that he'd get into SCA anyway that I should not be worried about it, but I keep thinking, "What if he gets into USC SCA and then has to throw that away?!" If this ends up being S's final decision, I hope he does not get into SCA, as that would make me crazy. And if he should happen to get a fat envelope on Monday from this wave, we still probably won't know if about SCA, so that won't help at all.

The thing he isn't realizing is that we have not been out there yet. He has not seen the two schools; he's just read about them online.

I strongly urge a visit. I was pretty enthusiastic about Chapman...until I went there to check it out. I was not a big fan. I have nothing against it or anything, it just didn't float my boat, if you know what I mean.

my friend officially got accepted to cinematic arts!

coolrena, did she just get a letter today from SCA? Do you know if she was production or some other SCA major? Congratulations to her! I'm sure she's going to have a very happy weekend!

shadekeiko, what do you think it was about Chapman that didn't float your boat? Was it that it's such a small school? That's something that I don't think my S is prepared for. The only college he's ever really been around is Texas A&M, where his brother attends. They have 45,000 students. That's what a college looks like to him. Chapman is not going to look like that. He knows that intellectually, but I think it's still going to be shocking to him when he sees it in person. If there were other things about it that bothered you, I'd be interested to know what they were if you'd feel comfortable sharing.

Hi B...congratulations on getting into Chapman, Loyola and NYU film! Any word from SCA yet? What's your handle on CC?

timely, might I suggest you call your son's regional USC admissions officer (the name's on their website) on Monday and explain S's ROTC deadline w/Chapman? I would hope he or she would appreciate your situation and perhaps be able to give you extra info.

Btw, a friend's daughter graduated Chapman's film program and really loved it and thrived. She produced a weekly tv show on campus.

Okay my whole life just released a collective sigh...I'm into NYU Tisch for Dramatic Writing, so basically I'm stoked because that means I actually have some kind of talent and my friends aren't just being way too nice.

Maybe, just maybe, this is a good sign for SCA? Are their admissions compareable?

timely -
Yeah, Chapman is a fairly small school - at least compared to USC. Definitely smaller than A&M (my dad went there, so I've been there several times). Let's just say that when they say it's "up and coming" it means it's nowhere near as good as USC, but given enough money and enough time, it could become a competitor in the future (I mean this for the school as a whole - though I think the film program is probably one of the better ones at Chapman). There was also construction everywhere when I went, though that could be done by now since I visited in the summer.

Additionally, I personally need to be in a big city, and Chapman is in the middle of nowhere. Like...the only thing in town are antique shops and stuff like that. Though that may appeal to your son since A&M is kind of in the middle of nowhere too. Though I think College Station is a better college town than Orange.

Visiting Chapman the day after USC also helped it to really pale in comparison in my mind. I wasn't all too impressed with their info session or their tour guide (it was pretty shoddy - they really should better that if they want to be taken seriously). The people who went to visit Chapman were also pretty different than the ones who were at USC, which was also an interesting thing to see.

It was definitely my least favourite I visited out of all the colleges I went to, though I can see why some people would like it. It just personally wasn't for me.

Has anybody who wasn't interviewed for a Trustee/Presidential scholarship or a first wave admit been accepted into SCA at this point?

Of the people who post here, I think only coolrena's mysterious friend has been admitted to SCA.

Timely,

My daughter visited both Chapman and USC. She felt more comfortable at USC because it is urban. Chapman had a suburban feel to it. I read someone's comment that the students at Chapman look like kids stepping out of a Hollister commercial. They looked very wholesome and nice. Nothing edgy. Since my daughter has had a more unusual upbringing, she felt more comfortable in a setting in which she won't stand out.

haha yes, rain, my friend really IS mysterious herself actulaly..

i THINK she got accepted on friday. (i read it thru her blog, and her post was on friday.. or sat.)

so...........

i ono. crap. i hope we're not all rejected. cause i mean, USC film accepts only like 50 per year... such a small number...

i got accepted to NYUfilm tho. hahahaha.

um. do u guys have any idea how to pay for film school? soo expensive..

oh, and timely, it was USC SCA Film Production.

Do they really only accept 50? Is this total for film only or all SCA majors combined? D applied to animation. During open house they did mention some really small number accepted -- we kind of looked at each other and almost walked out.

coolrena - congrats to you on NYU. I have to think that bodes well for USC admission.

mpebbles: That 50 is just for Production. Here's this, from post #11 by madbean:

"The program is one of USC's most competitive specialty schools, for both undergraduate and graduate programs. The BA program in film production accepts 50 students per year, while the Critical Studies department accepts 75 for its BA program, 20-25 for its MA program, and 10-12 for the Ph.D.; the BFA program in Writing for Film and Television accepts only 24 students per year. The MFA program in film directing accepts 48 new students each semester (fall and spring) and the MFA for screenwriting accepts 32 students per year (fall admittance only)."

In addition, I've been told they take 20 for Interactive Media undergrad, and 24 for Animation undergrad

Rainmama: Thank you. I don't know how I missed it on page 1; I did read the whole thread.
